Since the last thread took quite the turn away from the subject, this is a new thread for "maca." Has anyone had experience with using maca?

Yes I have...if you want to feel horny this is the herb to take, I didn't really want to walk around feeling horny, I wanted to have less estrogens symptoms and less pain… it gave me more! However the research that I did on Maca leads me to think that it might be really useful for a number of things. It's is mainly used by women going through the menopause and there are some people companies that do not recommend people with estrogens problems or endo using Maca. However there does seem to be more agreement that Maca works on the endocrine system and hormones and brings both these into balance. It’s also meant to be really good for thyroid problems. However I used it for two months and things got worse for me, though as I said in the previous thread I think that this can happen for a while before things get better, similar to using progesterone cream. This is due to estrogens receptors being opened up whilst hormone levels rise and then level out. I am not quite sure I understand the concept properly myself but if you run a search there is a lot of info out there.
Good Luck...Best thoughts...Red moon

if you want to feel horny this is the herb to take That made me laugh out loud redmoon. It wasn't what I was expecting you to say! I don't know anything about maca but it sounds a bit like dong quai. Dong quai is frequently recommended for menstrual problems and many people assume therefore therefore that it would be good for endometriosis as well. I have read that while it does help some people with endometriosis, in most people it actually makes matters worse. The reason is that it stimulates estrogen production in your body, which is typically the last thing you want if you have this horrid disease. Most naturopaths advise patients with endometriosis not to try Dong Quai because it just isn't worth the risk. If maca works in the same way then it probably would make matters worse for most people. If your body wasn't starting to adjust after two months, then it probably just isn't for you. Another approach is to try phyto-estrogens. These are like fake estrogen and they compete with your body's real estrogen, thus actually lessening the amount of actual estrogen in your body. I have been taking Black Cohosh, which contains phyto-estrogens, for several months and have found that it helps. There is a nice thread ouchy started ages ago in which she explains the whoel concept a lot better than I just did: cjlevett.proboards33.com/index.cgi?board=alternative&action=display&thread=1140238116

Hehehe! I just found a website touting Maca as an "aphrodisiac!" _______________________________________________________________ WHAT WILL MACA DO FOR YOU? Maca: Sex & Libido Maca is recommended for fertility problems, sterility, and other sexual disorders. However, in Peru maca has long been known as a potent APHRODISIAC. Research has proven maca to act on certain areas of the body that produce hormones and energizing substances, which enhance libido and increase virility. taken from: www.peruvian-maca.com/

I've tried Maca last year. My acupuncturist gave to me, I think I took it for a couple of months but I did not notice anything in particular nor good nor bad. I read that is usually taken for to improve fertility both on man and woman. But probably I did not take it long enough to make a fare judgment.
