Hello, I have an appointment on Oct 26 in Nashville with a GYN and I am almost certain once they see my symptoms they are going to recommend a lap. I have been very scared up to this point in having surgery but I am tired of not know what is wrong with me and I am tired of my feet/legs being numb!
Does anyone have any experience with Vanderbilt Center for Women's Health in Nashville, TN? I have also registered myself yesterday for the Center for Endometriosis Care in Atlanta GA because I have read so many good things about them. Thing is, Nashville is an hour drive for us, and Atlanta is like 5 hours. If/when I go to Nashville and they want to schedule me for surgery, I want to make sure I go someplace where I have the best surgery possible. I don't want to have to go through this more than once if I can help it! Does anyone have any personal stories on the CEC they'd like to share? I am willing to travel the distance if the CEC is worth it.

We've had several members go to CEC. The other one I'm not familiar with off the top of my head.

I did not go to the CEC, but it was on my list. I ended up going to Dr. Robbins in Maine, and I am so glad I did (an hour away & an excellent endo expert). I feel that the CEC and Dr. Redwine come up first on a lot of lists and searches, but that doesn't mean there aren't great docs out there whose names don't come up first.
Can you see the Vanderbilt Center first and also do a phone consult with the CEC? You could compare notes. In general, you want to know what their approach to endo is (beware of docs who say they are going to "burn it off" or cauterize, and those who say a hyst is a cure!), see what their feelings about hormone suppression, how many endo surgeries do they do, etc. Multiple opinions might be a good thing!

Thank you. Vanderbilt in Nashville did nothing for me. The GYN I saw there did a quick 2 minute pelvic exam, and then sent me to a neurologist. She scheduled me for an ultrasound... then once it was done, called me back to tell me that she saw no apparent gynecological source for my pain. I also had 2 MRIs done which basically showed nothing.
I have spoken with the Dr. at the CEC and sent my records in for review. He told me he DOES believe my pain is gynecological and there is an 80% chance that I have endo. I have an appointment for a lap with them in February!

Well, good to know you can at least rule them out. On to the CEC! We've had a few members go there and have raved about the staff there. Let us know how it goes!
