Just wondering what endo pain feels like for most people? Is it just like having menstrual cramps all the time or is endo pain a different pain altogether?

Most of the time my pain is achey, like a cramp. I've been told that you never want to describe them as "cramp like" to a doctor though, because they may just assume you have dysmenorrhea instead of something more serious and basically blow you off. The dyspareunia I experience is a little sharper and stronger.

Mostly My endo pain is just a constant ache, sometimes on top of the constant ache I get a cramp like pain. So it can be both. Does that help?

My endo pain varies, as does I think that of many women with endo. Sometimes it's chronic dyspareunia where it feels like you have period cramps 24/7, and other times it feels like a cramping more similar to digestive cramping (like the kind that precedes diarrhea or bad gas... but you don't actually have either of those things). There are also times that it feels like a severe piercing pain like I've just been stabbed. Heather is right in the sense that some doctors that aren't well-educated in the endo department will write you off if you describe your endo pain as cramps, but dyspareunia IS a common symptom of endo, so it's important to include it when telling doctors how you feel, but it might be helpful to make it clear to them that you have other symptoms too. Hope that helps! Endo pain can be really hard to describe sometimes. How would you describe the pain that you feel?

Mine could be anything from a 10 which I could handle but would complain. Or a minor discomfort. Since I have endo on my bowel it can be greater than a 10 with a bm that I feel like the pain is piercing. Yes share the pain you are experiencing.....it varies for all woman so no real right answer to your question sorry hope we are helping...

mine can go all over the place. I second Keri on the endo on the bowel and pain with pooping--it's horrible. But from not too bad, to almost unbearable. and aching, stabbing, tearing, throbbing--all types. It's really a mixture.

I never had this kind of pain, but since my lap, I've had pain when bming and pain when urinating. Not EVERY time, but sometimes. Most times it feels like a tearing... Not very comfortable at all. And then I've been having menstrual cramps soon after ovulation. Before my lap, I had cramps 3 to 5 days before my period, but this time I started having cramps about 8 to 9 days before my period.
And today is the start of my period and OUCHHHHHH. Of course, my menstrual cramps during my period have always been very painful, but I am so entirely sick of dealing with it. What do you guys do for the pain? I always try to get through the pain without meds, but it's not smart of me because I am just making myself suffer. :-(

I am similiar to jessabug & rustymyrtle. It varies but I can't pinpoint any specifics other than about a week before my period it gets worse and I get low grade fevers. I am usually feeling "better" for a day or two after my period and then it's back to square one again!
Bowel movements are the most painful. I cannot strain in any shape or form and find that I need to take a stool softner to help.

Mine is a horrible stabbing pain in my right ovary 50% of the time, and the other 50% just a heaviness/ ache there. Also aching pain up my whole right side, and lower back on my right side.
I have horrible swelling pain in my joints and groin lymph nodes, so the whole area just constantly feels sore. Sometimes it hurts to walk.
I also have HORRIBLE period cramps where I get incredibly weak, and start to black out/ can't stand up or walk.

This thread is really helpful! I was always resistant to a diagnosis of endo because I thought that all ladies with endo had horrible debilitating stabbing pains and flooding during their period. I have neither of those things. But my acupuncturist thought I had endo long before the endometriomas based largely on my description of my lower abdomen as tender and feeling very heavy or full.
I get period cramps, but they aren't horrible. Generally some ibuprofen knocks them out quickly. I also get sharp/stabby pains during sex (only in certain positions) and I get sharp pains in my intestines during my period (which I was told for years was some sort of menstrual-cycle specific IBS...).
Other than that, I get a heavy feeling in my lower abdomen beginning about CD 16 and my lower abdomen becomes tend around CD 20 or 22. I also have fatigue that begins around CD 16 and get worse and worse until my period starts. For me, the fatigue is worse than the pain (but that's only because my pain isn't too bad).

I hear you on the fatigue! Any chance you're on any sort of hormonal treatment? I don't remember, sorry! During a typical cycle, progesterone is the dominant hormone from ovulation until the start of your period. And higher progesterone levels slow things down in the hopes that you ovulated, had the egg fertilized, and are trying to get the pregnancy to stick. That's why some women feel tired before their period, are constipated (slows down digestion so your body can absorb more nutrients), etc. Just something to think about!

My pain seems to be all over the place lately. Yeah that Lupron really makes a difference - NOT. The pain comes when I ovulate with cramping, aching and stabbing pain. Just before my period it gets bad again with the same types of pain. Sex is painful in most positions. My left side is always the worst. I hate my left ovary! I also get a terrible pain on the left side with every orgasm. It hurts as much as it feels awesome. This last period was very different except for the pain. I had very little bleeding (it's usually heavy), mostly clots...yuck. Only lasted about 4 days, the pain was more intense and general nausea that's still hanging around.

Mine sounds a bit like what other people are describing. For me it started last year as lower back pain and cramps that woke me up at night for a few days in a row every few weeks. Eventually it evolved into daily pain, that's gotten worse over the last few months. It's mostly mild cramps, with the occasional pinching cramps, and crazy lower back pain. I'm on continuous birth control, but when I take my occasional placebo week, it's pretty much the same, but with a lot of pain in my butt/thighs and I feel like I'm being stabbed in the ovaries with needles, heh.

you know i don't think i've ever been ask to describe my pain.
My period pain is like a bad stomach ache but lower and the level of pain is as bad as i experienced during labour (only use low level gas only during labour), it's that bad i usually vomit (usually get this sickly sweet taste in my mouth just before i do)
also, since having my daughter, when i started ovulating again, i been having bad sharp pain around my right ovary that would last the whole day, would happen when i would have been ovulating (before pregnancy i did have some pain there but it wasn't bad and would go within minutes). When the dr did my laparoscopy he said the worst he found was on the right ovary, which he removed. Haven't ovulated since then, isn't the pill just lovely (note sarcasm), so don't know if it fixed it.
Also get these sharp pains, that can happen anywhere in my abdomen area, they vary in pain and usually only last less than 10 mins. Once i saw a dr about them, this 1 lasted more than an hour, he just put it down to growing pains, but i still get them... (i now realise that it's a type of endo pain)
