I am so sorry that happened to you Cass. Have you tried something simple like the BRAT diet? Like I said I haven't done Psyllium because I stay away from too much fiber b/c I tend toward diarrhea, esp since my surgery.

Okay so I have tried metamucil b/c my grandma and my dad suggested this ALOT, but when I tried it; I became constipated for days at a time. Before the metamucil~I would have 3-5 BMs a day that were either loose or diarrhea. I only took the stuff for about 2 to 3 days and then gave up. Should I try taking it for a longer period of time to see if it starts working or is it not for me? Should I try the acidophilus-sp? pills with it; maybe it will help things out a bit? Any advice would be awesome. One more thing~I haven't had the loose bowels since surgery. I was constipated at first, but I've been eating prunes everyday and it is helping. Not sure if I should start the psyllium while I'm not having issues to kinda keep it regulated and then maybe it won't mess up at all? Thanks in advance for any info.

I would try PURE psyllium husk--not metamucil. Get it at a healthfood store. It looks like a bag of seed husks. Mix it in diluted orange juice or something. Works wayyyy better than metamucil.

Reviving this thread. I was wondering if anyone is currently using psyllium as part of their daily regimine? I have been taking 2 tbsp of chia seeds in my smoothie I make with banana/spinach and I was a pooping champ for along time and for the past 3 weeks, I have gotten plugged up and just have bunny poops. Sorry, it's gross but I'm getting desperate. I am on cup #2 of smooth move chocolate senna tea. I know Dr. Oz is a huge fan of psyllium, I think the capsules would be best for me - just looking for some new feedback on this topic.

The friend who introduced me to kefir would add them to her kefir shakes for breakfast, prob like a tbsp. I've never tried it since I am a low fiber girl (aka, diarrhea queen)!

Semi - wouldn't something like that be good for you to prevent the diarrhea? I think it's supposed to help with that too as well as help with constipation.

Some of the research on IBS has gone back to looking at low fiber for diarrhea-predominant. it might help with bulk, but I know anything with too much fiber is rough on me. I'm fairly happy with my bowels now, the probiotics work well and I'm way better than I used to be!
