I just got accepted into the Wenatchee Valley College Nursing Program!! ;D ;D I have been working on pre-reqs. for two years. My time in the hospital with Endometriosis lead me to realize this career was where I belong. I have a lot to give. I currently work at Mid Valley Hospital as a CNA which gives me a job opportunity once I have completed my studies in two years. WOW!! I have been waiting since June to find out and they told us the acceptance letters weren't coming until August 1st. On Monday when my Mom came took me to breakfast she commented after discussing my health "are you sure you should do this maybe your health isn't good enough". I started really doubting I would get in after that lovely conversation. She kept telling me I should just keep my "little" CNA job. CNA is one of the hardest jobs in the hospital. We run our asses off helping the RN's so they have time to sit on the computers and document, give meds, etc, all the hard technical stuff that has to be done. I shouldn't doubt myself since in many ways physically nursing will be easier... but I was!!! So anyways, doubt no more. I have been accepted. We start classes sept. 26 and I have an orientation august 24th. I'm so nerdy I want to go buy pencils etc... I have no doubt that its going to be a hard road and I will journal my fatigue and fear because of my health many times but I know its what I'm supposed to be doing. ;D

I'm soooooo pleased for you! I have read some of your previous posts about what's gone off and no-one is more deserving of a place on the program than you!
Totally go out and get your new stationary, I love stationary, I even have a set of draws just to keep it in; it's like a hobby for me!
Enjoy it honey, and don't let anyone rain on your parade; it seems to me that it was your health that made you consider this path so surely it is going to keep you motivated to succeed, and I'm sure you will xxxx

I stopped by Facebook and raved for you but I just want to say congratulations again! That's just great news and you've been working really hard against all these medical problems. It's going to be challenging and at times will seem so difficult, but I think you've proven to yourself that you can do it. Just keep at it!

thanks guys! I have started filling out paperwork and working on background checks etc. I also have a medical approval form to get filled out. That will be fun (NOT). I think I need to find a new PCP and ask for a physical so I can get that filled out. I'll admit I'm slightly terrified to ask for it. They don't believe that there is anything wrong with me so I'm sure they are going to sign it, but wouldn't it be ironic if they wouldn't sign it? (and awful)

I can see why that's a concern to you which is sad that you have to be worried about that. That would be absolutely awful if they didn't sign it. Try not to let it stress you too much. Like you said, they think there's nothing wrong with you so they shouldn't have a problem signing it. Jerks.

I got my medical release signed and It did start a whole series of doubts. I want to do this so badly but I have to be honest I worry. This one nurse ends up late every night doing paper work. She is a really good nurse but never gets caught up on all the computer stuff. The nurses work 12 hour shifts already. I can't imagine working that late... not with my health issues. Some of them skip lunch too which my ulcers will never allow. I keep wondering if they are just bad nurses or what I have gotten myself into. YIKES! I know the job itself and I'm really excited about that. Its just everything else that makes me nervous. I just have to keep telling myself I can do this!! I won't let anything slow me down, not endo, not my GI issues, not anything

I think you'll be an amazing nurse, and nurses are angels. You may just need to be clear, from the beginning, what your boundaries are. People generally respect colleagues/employees who set boundaries; it's just not everyone sets them.

that's very true Rustmrytle! Like I will be taking my breaks and some things may have to wait. I know a lot of the CNA's think they have to work the full eight running around like crazy people and skipping breaks etc. but you have to trust your fellow employees to cover for you when you need a break! The other thing I keep arguing with myself about it "do I keep working while going to school?" It has its advantages... I have money for my books, family, food, etc. and maybe even some occasional fun study breaks. I could ask the RN's I work with about things I'm learning and see it in real world experience. On the other hand, school is very hard, and several people flunk out every year because they tried to do to much. With my health issues, working while trying to do school could be a very bad idea... I'm really torn about it.

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D CONGRATS!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Proud of you That's sooooo awesome!! I'm in the RN program at the community college near me and even with health issues, 2 kids, a house, a job, a husband (who helps way more then he hurts!), and a dog... I am SECOND in my class! So... if I can do it I feel like anyone can, as long as you have the passion and the will to do it. However... if your working full-time now... I highly suggest if at all financially possibly to drop down to a contingent position. That will leave time for study groups, which I highly suggest because it FORCES you to take the time to study. Ugh SERIOUSLY... if you ever, ever, ever need help or someone to talk to please message me!!! I'm so excited for you!! This will be the most awesome, wonderful journey you will ever HATE!! You can do it!! And also... there are nursing positions that are only 8 hour shifts. And nurses may skip lunches, but that doesn't mean that they don't snack constantly! And by the way... I scheduled my lap on purpose this summer so that I was on break from school... and I have another surgery I'll be scheduling for Christmas break. You know... a nursing intervention that is often utilized for pain... distraction and trust me... nursing school will be a huge distraction from your pain! And another heads up... usually the first semester of schooling is all CNA stuff... so you'll be ahead of a few other students!
