I am doing excatly what I did with my donut experiment only I applied it to my perfume. For the last few day I have a awful itch that I could not figure out to I started to do process of elimination. I thought maybe makeup, then detergent, or a food. Today tho when the only thing I had on was clothes and my perfume. Coco Chanel Mademoiselle I realized that it was that. I have worn it for years the only thing that wont give me a headache. I looked up the ingredients and #3 is benzyl salicylate so I did a little research and people do have reactions to this chemical. I am in a deep research now about and will post more as I find out more. I also learned that my beloved Coco Chanel was involved with a Nazi in World War II oh wow I almost got sick over that. As for the perfum experiment I do not have to wear Chanel but my doc can test it. Ask your docs if they can do that for you. My body I think is just done with all synthetic things. Even Chanel!

Aw, I know how much that must sadden you... But, I'm with you on the perfumes. Just about anything that smells gives me a headache! Can't wear perfumes, lotions with scents, any of that stuff. The most I can get away with are things with organic and non-synthetic ingredients. If it's a 'fake' smell, it'll give me a headache! Best of luck weeding that stuff out and feeling better as a result, even if it's a signature smell for you!
I was thinking about your doughnut experiment a few weeks ago. I think at the time you were testing for sugar? What if, all along, it was the gluten?

Keri I've noticed the odd reaction to my Chanels aswell. Haven't quite confirmed the suspicion yet. Too reluctant to really try to find out, be totally gutted.
He may have been one of the decent ones!

It was no doubt the gluten. I feel so awful that my signature smell is gone. Just another thing taken from me right? LOL I have to just blow it off. If she was a supporter of the Nazi party my poor jewish husband has been buying me Chanel! I have jewish guilt about it and I am not even jewish. So I guess it all happens for reason. Now Helen what are you using by Chanel that is giving you issues?

I feel your pain! I used to slather myself with Boots Sanctury body cream, but now I just can't stand it; it brings me out in a hot burning rash and the smell makes me have the worst headache/sickness. I used to be fine with it and loved it, it was brill for my dry skin (though I also get spots which is SO unfair!), but now my favourite has been donated. I still use the shower gels, and thought it was strange that they didn't cause me any issues, but never really thought to check the ingredients. The thing I found most strange was my body only went off it when I used it last December at a time when I had the worst period/pain I have ever had ever - I thought it was a mental association thing, but now I'm thinking it might be a hormone thing. I generally only use natural products, so am going to investigate the chemicals and get like Einstein and find the magical answer!
Can you ladies use naturally scented water? There are some lovely plants that can be diffused in water, smell lush, and can be sprayed on clothes rather than skin. There's an excellent chap in England who has a book about all the different things you can make from plants and flowers. Can't remember his name, but will get it. My friend who has absolutely chronic eczema swears by it.
Xxx

I know - I need to remind myself that most people on here won't have a clue what I'm on about sometimes, I'm just so common and Derbyshire! They do say "Derbyshire born and bread, strong in the arm and thick in the head"!
It's James Wong "Grow Your Own Drugs", and they sell it on the US Amazon site too. Think I'm going to buy it myself as it's not the kind of book you just borrow - don't want to get my plants mixed up and start treating myself with the wrong thing, might end up with more of a beard than I already have! He used to have a series on BBC2, but think it's finished now xxx

Lol! I love all the UK English-isms on this site! Bloody hell, off to the loo to have a wee. I have Irish/English/Welsh roots, so it probably touches some primal part of me and makes me smile.
