Hey ladies, I thought beings as I'm busy being a bridezilla that some of my lovely new endo friends could help me, and share some happiness too! The wedding stuff is reminding me that there is another world outside of pain and bleeding!
Just thought that you could add the favourite bits/nice details/funny stories from weddings you have had or been too - I might even steal some of the good ideas!
I'll get things started: my favourite funny bit from any wedding was last year when we found out that our "cool" friend had a middle name of Bernerd. I have nothing against the name, but love the fact that he seriously tried to bribe the registrar to NOT include his middle name in the vows!
The nicest thing from a wedding was when we were given Christmas decorations as wedding favours. Every year when I put it on the tree I remember our friends and their love for each other...and it reminds me their anniversary is coming up!!! Xxx

I used to work for a wedding photographer and would assist shooting weddings. I figure I've been to 70+ weddings so I have LOTS of stories, though some of them I want to block from memory! I'll have to rack my memory, see what I can come up with!

Aww, I miss being a bridezilla It's just hit me that our first anniversary is only a month away and I'm still just getting used to saying 'my husband'! One of my friends had a relaxed, garden BBQ for her wedding reception and there were two varieties of fruit punch; one of which was supposed to be non-alcoholic. However, they were made by two different people and there was some confusion over who was supposed to be making the non-alcoholic one so they both ended up having alcohol in them. Loads of people (myself included) drank loads of the 'non-alcoholic' punch and the whole bucketful was finished before we clocked on, so it ended up with everyone being very merry, including the teetotallers and designated drivers. Fortunately, none of the kids had any (or if they did, we saw no adverse effects). Now I've written about it, it sounds awful but it was really, really fun; especially seeing the people who never, ever drank being tipsy and in fits of giggles. There was also a bouncy castle and after all the kids had cleared off, the adult men (fuelled by punch) decided it would be a good idea to try to topple it by running and jumping on it en-masse. They managed it a few times but on their third try or so it exploded and collapsed spectacularly. Queue ALL the women turning to their husbands/sons/brothers with their hands on their hips and saying in unison as if we'd rehearsed it "I TOLD you this was a bad idea!" It was hilarious. Thankfully we only had to club together to pay for a repair, rather than replace the whole bouncy castle. At my wedding, the first thing my husband said to me when I got up the aisle was "I heard the limo crashed!" (It hadn't crashed; but it couldn't get through the gates to our venue and had scraped the floor trying to get onto the driveway, so we'd had to get out and walk up the windy road to the venue, meaning I arrived at my wedding late and on foot). I don't know how it got to him that we had crashed; that's Chinese Whispers for you. It took 2 minutes of us whispering about the rumoured 'crash' before he finally said "oh, you look beautiful by the way" as an afterthought. Bless. One of my nephews, who'd just turned two at the time, got really excited when people threw confetti after our exit and in his enthusiasm to join in, he reached onto the floor, picked up a load of dried leaves and dirt and chucked them all over my pretty white dress and then smiled sweetly up at me for approval.

Hannah, that picture is so precious. What an adorable boy. And Cloudy, our wedding was pretty simple. It suited the two of us perfectly, but I recognize it's not for everyone. I got my wedding dress used on craigslist, and we got married on a friend's back porch, about 30 miles south of Richmond (capital of Virginia--we're both from southern VA, I'm from the west and Shane from the east, so we figured as long as we were in the southern part of the state, our families could both get there). A random country strip mall shopping center a few miles from our friend's house had everything we needed--a grocery store to get wine/beer; a florist to bring flowers; the florist had a friend who catered events so we just signed up the two of them to deal with flowers, food, and foldout chairs. We arranged the chairs to make an aisle for the ceremony, and then broke them out around tables for the party afterwards. I had 2 bridesmaids--my best friend (and maid of honor) who did my makeup and my sister in law who did my hair. It was a pretty big fight with my mom not to get married in our church, but Shane (husband) refused. Of course there were other fights that went into it...but all in all, people liked it and it worked--I got married at least! My favorite part of the wedding was having my dad marry me (he's a preacher). He just walked me down the "aisle" in his preacher robes, and then moved up front to hitch us. Here we are going down the aisle. He's such a fashion icon--he actually wore the same suit to marry me that he did to baptize me when I was an infant!

we planned our wedding and reception to be on my family's alaskan homestead, but it rained.... we ended up doing our ceremony in the church my parents were married in in 1968, and our reception at the Homer Elks Lodge. Warren's uncle was in a country western band, and at the last minute we got a call that his band was on the way to play our reception! I was horrified, since I had a lot of music all set up already, but the band was AWESOME and all the locals loved it... here's me and honey dancin our dance. My mom made my dress, from antique indian silk my girlfriend brought me from india... loved my wedding!

I don't have a picture of it but my favorite wedding memory from our wedding is after the ceremony and coming down the aisle, the second I was in the foyer I grabbed tony and hugged him for dear life. I hated not seeing him the morning of the wedding. He is my best friend and we had spent 9 month of our courtship apart and then four months waiting for the wedding. I just needed a hug from my friend. Stupid tradition says the bride and groom shouldn't see each other and I think its a dumb idea! I also almost took of to Vegas with him two months before the wedding but we had spent quite a bit on the wedding already. I should have!! It would have been very romantic and I was sick of waiting for the wedding night. (yes, I'm an old fashioned girl and no I did not have sex until the night of my wedding) That hug is just very clear in my memory and my sister loved the idea so much that she did the same thing with her hubby after her wedding. There is so much stress and anxiety and that big hug just wrapped it up and made it all go away, and then I was able to enjoy the rest of the day! ;D

I absolutely love this! It is one of my best ideas yet, closely followed by dying my blonde hair bright red when I had to wear an eye patch for 2 weeks so people would notice the hair rather than the pirate attire!
I love the piccies, how cute is your nephew Hannah - oh, and if it wasn't going to be a winter wedding i would definately be stealing the idea of a bouncy castle!
Rustmyrtle and Pretty, you both look so amazing. I love the sound of your weddings - they both sound so special! And Omaklackey, I love that you were an 'old fashioned girl', though I think 'lovely romantic' is much more an appropriate title!xxx

LOL @ cloudy with the red hair! And gotta love kids and their dirt throwing lol!! My son was a ring bearer for my sister's wedding last year... in rehearsal he walked nicely down the aisle... in the actual wedding he RAN down the aisle leaving the flower girl in his dust... oye! And at my own wedding... I'll never forget the best man fell out of his chair. I saw it happen and couldn't stop laughing through my vows, but the whole church didn't see it so they had no clue what I was laughing at haha! They just thought I was a crazy woman! And I was SO mad at my husband for picking him as the best man... I remember that. In all honesty I hated my wedding. I realized how "not us" the wedding was... we should have gotten married on the beach just the 2 of us, but instead we had a big church wedding. I was only 20 at the time and was so nervous having everyone looking at me while I walked down the aisle I wanted to barf. It was like I could feel them JUDGING me lol!! And it was august... I was sweating in my wedding dress... I didn't want to take any of the outdoor pictures... my wedding photographer decided at the reception she was a guest and not a photographer... I realized that when I tossed the bouquet and she almost caught it. My dad suffered from heat stroke and my sisters were both fighting with my friend all of which were in my wedding party. Now that I look back at it... it was awful! But the best thing about it was that I married my best friend that day I suppose the goal for the day was accomplished.

Ah I love the photos and the stories.
I think you are so right Maverickrose, the most important part for me is having the wedding I want, not the one that everyone else expects, and I love you piccy, stunning! Oh, and if I want to have jars of sweets in the evening instead of puddings on the buffet table I will (that's aimed at the mother in law by the way, even though she obviously won't read this I feel better for saying it!)
