I have researched endometriosis for a long time, and the only thing that is always talked about it repeated surgeries. Is it even worth to go in again and again and again? Its not going to stop it will continue to create havok and torment.
All of you who had surgery did you regret it?
What is the average amount of surgeries before menopause does an average person have?
What are the risks of a total hysterectomy? Those who have had one did it make a difference?
If there is no cure what are we to do?

Hi, angela. I consider laps beneficial. I have had two. I don't regret either one of them, as several parts of my intestines were freed-up during each one, saving me MAJOR surgeries! I think laps are also a good way to keep an eye on things--how bad the endo is getting.
The number of surgeries a woman would have before menopause would depend upon 1) age of diagnosis, 2) how eager to perform laps her surgeon is--some may not want to do repeat surgeries because of scar tissue, etc., 3) how willing a woman is to go under anesthesia and through surgeries numerous times...the list goes on.
You can find out more about hysterectomies and if they made a difference in a number of hysterectomy threads on the forum--please do a search for these.
If there is no cure--we live with it and treat it to the best of our abilities. The only for sure cure so far is when death happens.
(Note to other posters: Please don't post replies about hysterectomy, unless it is to post a link to an appropriate thread. Thanks.)

I have had the one, it was how I was formally diagnosed, nothing was done during my lap though. I am glad I had this as I found out for sure, and knew there was a good reason for all the pain and other endo side effects. Despite feeling quite sick with the anaesthetic, I would have one again to find out what else is going on and possibly have something done such as lasering of endo. I would much prefer a week of post-op discomfort to some other treatments on offer!
Post hysterectomy, my mum had endo effects until they took out her ovaries too a few years later... but even then after total removal her tummy swelled in time with mine and my sister's cycles. Spooky ghost endo!

for me lap was use to diagnose and my dr was able to remove some endo but not much. My option is kind of conflicting - for one side I am ok with the lap since it has helped to diagnose my endo and found out the extend of it, organs affected etc.. but for the other side did not help as a treatment since not much was removed, pain the same after wards and the risk of having scar tissue, but as ouchy said I am not sure if there is any other successful treatment to free up organs that are stuck together

I don't regret mine at all. I had the one Oct 05. I've been virtually pain free (I say virtually cause I've had a few bad days). I too needed to know what was going on so I didn't blindly assume one thing to find out it was worse. Also, I feel so much better. I will do it again when necessary, but its an individual thing. I've had symptoms since I started menstruating at 14. But I made it to 30 before trouble needing surgery. My dr suspected scar tissue from c-section made it worse, and I suspect hormone surge post baby made it worse, so maybe I'll get lucky and be fine for awhile.

I have had 2 laps. The first one was to diagnose me with endo. The doc didnt remove any of it because she said that it was on the underside of my left ovary and tube and also on a bery large blood vessel that if they removed it that there is a huge risk that they will puncture the vessel and that I would bleed out and die. So surgery number one did nothing for me but to give me the diagnosis. My second surgery (recent) was done because I was experiencing more pain and in additional areas, which gave the suspicion of it spreading. This second lap was also for nothing. This doctor came back and told me that I dont have endo, that my insides are clean! The only issue that I have is pelvic congestion (or so she says). Once again, nothing was done. Now I can say this that my symptoms are not soley to the pelvic congestion. I do still have all of the symptoms that point right back to the endo. I personally think I have both.

Im glad for my Lap, i couldnt walk before going into surgery, they removed all of my scar tissue and free'd up my ovary and fallopiane tube. I havent had too many bad periods since then, but i was also on cont. bc for about 6 mo. I'm postive if I never had the surgery, things would be sooo much worse. I would do it again if i was ever in that much pain again.
