My nutritionist is running this test to check on how my body metabolizes estrogen. One he is checking for a liver function in corelation but also the fact that I have had uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, liver masses, and fibroid cystic breasts all are reasons for this sort of tests to rule if I have a risk of a estrogen sensitive cancer. Its a precaution and being using to determine where my levles are at. It is not a cheap test but the more I read and more info he gave me I thought it was worth a post for the board. Insurance does not cover it and it is out of pocket expense but I think is worth every penny. Of course I also think insurance companies should cover it and our GP should give us the option to get it done however that will prob never happen. I feel like I should of known about this test sooner but I know of it now and hope it helps answer some questions and maybe help someone else on the board who maybe looking for answers too... www.estronex.com/

$198 at the office I go to. I do know that some places online give a discount around breast cancer awareness month. I saw a article about it.

My doctor has me taking liquid Iodine drops (2 drops in a small bathroom cup of water) in the morning. It's function is to help metabolize the estrogen that my body produces. It also helps my breast tissue become less dense. I've been using it every day since February and my breats feel amazing.
Just a thought if your estrogen levels are high because of your body's lack to metabolize it.

The urine test I did a few months ago was similar, though it measured a lot more than estrogen (progesterone, testosterone, DHEA, cortisol, etc.). Even though my estrogen levels are near post-menopausal, it showed that my estrogen ratio is not so good, which means I could be at a higher risk... Mine was a bit more expensive but I think it was worth every penny! Um, Lur6, I love your doc!! Everything you say about him is so not the standard that we hear about on here!! One of the recommendations I got after getting my hormone urine test results was to take iodine pills to help improve my hormones. I can't wait for my breasts to feel amazing!

I figured you knew of this Karen and I thought I had read some where a test similar to this when Iwas doing my breast cancer research for my library display but I do not think it is the same test. Do you girls have the fibroid cystic breasts also? OB had mentioned doing a mammagram early on me bc of this but if I can gather some info this way I could maybe wait on the mammagram. I think my nutritionist is doing anything at this point to kinda figure out how I metabolize things and this is test he can use to measure it. I really do not metabolize anything so I am curious how this will turn out.

Yeah, I think I did a slightly different test, but it still measured how my body metabolizes the various hormones in my body. It was completely fascinating and my doctor kept going on and on and on about how much info that one test revealed! Mine was $240 I think but worth EVERY penny. I suspect you'll have a similar experience! I don't have issues with fibroids in my breasts that I know of, but they sure as hell get a whole lot bigger throughout the month and I know huge hormone fluctuations are to blame. They are huge bags of weight (though I always get compliments on them).

Lur6, you have an amazing amount of information. I'm so impressed! Thanks for posting this, KSA.
Though I wouldn't want my boobs to stop swelling with my cycle. I have tiny boobs (30B), and the first week or so of my cycle when they are even smaller always deals a huge blow to my self esteem!
