All these women on here freakin' out about fertility and you panic with anything that might mess with your birth control. I love it! I don't think 'freaking out' is perhaps the most sensitive term to use here. We have many, many women that have very valid concerns about fertility issues. I think it'd be incredibly counter-productive to trivialize this, regardless of whether or not some members choose not to try for children at the moment... Tarabobara, can you elaborate on how Nuvaring failed? Were you on antibiotics? Did you have an infection? Did you leave it in too long or leave it out too long? Was there any sort of justification other than failure of the ring? I think some women here could use some clarification! I know in my use/reading back in the day it was touted as being incredibly effective because, as Jenaya said, the ability for user error is much lower, but no form of BC is 100%.

Also too, other medications like anti-seizure meds, migraine meds reduce the effectiveness of birth control. A lot of people don't know this because we tend to put a lot of focus on antibiotics. . I didn't know about the interactions of barbiturates until someone here told me recently! Even birth control for women who DO want children is important because having a family takes a lot of planning in which timing may be extremely important.

Moved this topic as it's not pertaining to in/fertility so much as the birth control aspect.

Hey Karen, remember when I was telling you that I thought I was ovulating every month? Eeeek! You know, I still get those ovulation pains right at the time I would be ovulating if I weren't on birth control. do you think I should start charting basal body temps to see if I am?

Wouldn't hurt, even just for peace of mind. I doubt you're ovulating every month, but if you worry about it, go for it!

One of my good friends got pregnant while on the ring. She wasn't on any other meds and was using it properly. Be careful...this isn't the first time I've heard of this!

If you love it and have good results, continue to use it! My friend could've just been in that 1% of bcp failure...maybe just start charting to see if you are ovulating?!?

Well I just got back from the neurologist and I have been instructed to take out the nuva ring immediately. Aparently I'm on the brink of having a flippin stroke. I just am so overwhelmed with the things he told me. I just had 12 vials of blood taken, I'm getting an angiogram of my brain tomorrow, my brain MRI was abnormal. UGh! Now how am I supposed to treat my endo???

Jenaya, Is it because of the estrogen in the ring? I used to get migraines on the combo pill from the estrogen. As for another options, you should check out the bio-identical hormones thread under natural treatments. Both Karen and I have been taking natural progesterone (with a prescription - not the over the counter cream which doesn't seem strong enough). Maybe you could tolerate that without having all the side effects from BP. I don't have any side effects from it. The only one I had was tiredness when I first started taking it (but you can also take it before bed only) and sore breasts, but both of those are gone. Both Karen and I have tracked our experiences month by month. It seems to take a while to start working - as it actually seemed worse the first two months, but then it was better after that and last month I had no pain at all. I take a troche under the tongue and Karen takes a capsule. You can also do cream or vaginal suppositories. Of course, this isn't birth control, so you'll have to use an alternative method for that. I did try a mini pill (progestin only) for endo prevention and BP before and that didn't give me migraines, but I got my period every two weeks. It was lighter but I did bleed every two weeks for 6 months. So, I said forget that. I haven't had that issue with the natural progesterone dose.
Hope you are doing ok. Were you getting migraines from the ring?

Thank you Redwood for all the advice! I never looked into anything natural because the nuva ring has worked so well for me. I've had migraines almost my entire life but since being on the ring, they have become so crippling. The doctor seems to think there are other things going on and the nuva ring just made everything worse. He scared me enough to never want to touch synthetic hormones EVER again. It looks like I'll be jumping on the natural route with you ladies! I'm so ready to be rid of this hormone treatment. I'm excited to see how much my mood will stabilize! No more crying fits! No more anxiety! I get to be my old self again! YAY!
Now to combat the endo.... natural route here I come!! ;D I'm kinda excited. hehehe.

J - I'm just getting caught up on the posts from the week - it sounds like you are in good hands with the neuro. I hope you can find the natural route for the endo - maybe acupuncture?
