I actually have a weird reaction to phenergran. A lot of people have the same reaction called dystonia. It also gave me really horrible anxiety when it usually knocks people out. Some hospitals have even stopped using it. Zofran is a lot better for you. Mine was only a $10 copayment. The best part about sublingual zofran is that you don't have to swallow it. It dissolves under your tongue and diffuses straight into your blood stream skipping the whole digestion process. This process makes it work very quickly too. I love my zofran. I'd be lost without it.

WOW Jenaya I found another dystonia person. Its awful you feel like you cant move and then I get the temp aphasia with it too. Took it for entire pregnancy and no issues even had it after then one day reaction. Regulan and Iv Zofran do it to me too. That is why I go the natural route. I have never ran into anyone that has even heard of dystonia! With Regulan it was while I was in the hospital with my csection my tongue was hanging out of my mouth I felt like I had a stroke no movement on my right side. It was awful. Painful muscle spasms and severe vomitting with the Zofran I was YELLING when that one hit me that was the most recent episode for the December surgery. My friend was there she is a nurse and she said to the other nurse its the Zofran stop shooting her with it. I was so bad she said give me permission to tell them to stop if you cant talk someone needs to for you so I did and they stopped shooting me with it. I am so glad it works for you Jenaya Im all out of options with anti naseau meds now they have use the patch behind my ear thats what I got for appendix and galbladder surgery. Oh on a messed up note after all of awareness we gave the hospital and the red allergy bracelt I had on I still had a dumb nurse make up a phenergan morphine shot for me really WTF I NEVER let them shoot me til I know whats in it. Seth said to the nurse just leave....
Composine, anti depressants and anti nausea meds seem to be the meds most lilkely to give the reaction I read up on it a little after a doc told me what it was. Bendryl and Cogentin reverse it. Doc gave me a script of Cogentin just incase any med I am given does it to me. I snap out of it pretty fast after I have the meds. I would say anyone that experiences will never forget it thats for sure.

That dystonia reaction is no joke. I have seen many patients get down-right psychotic on anti-nausea meds. I have a friend that gets dystonia from phenergran too. We laugh about it sometimes. I told my neurologist about my dystonic reaction to phenergran and he replied with, "ah yeah that's pretty common." lol WTF?

Keri! I just read earlier that there is a HUGE recall on alcohol wipes. Apparently, someone died from bacterial meningitis from the same bacterium that was found to be contaminating the wipes, leading to the recall. I'll try to look for the info on it again later. My computer crashed when I went to link.

THe death/lawsuit: "Contaminated Alcohol Pad Blamed for Sudden Death of Child" A lawsuit filed in federal court claims that a contaminated alcohol prep pad manufactured by Triad Group, Inc. caused the sudden death of a 2-year-old boy. The lawsuit claims Bacillus cereus bacteria from a contaminated alcohol prep pad caused a deadly meningitis infection. "This little boy had undergone a relatively simple procedure for a benign cyst," says attorney Jim Perdue, Jr. in the lawsuit. "He was recovering well until he contracted a Bacillus cereus infection, which is not normally a hospital-acquired infection. Hospital staff had no idea how the bacteria got into the boy's spinal fluid." On Jan. 3, 2011, a month after the boy's death, Triad Group announced a nationwide recall of all lots of its alcohol pads and swabs due to concerns of Bacillus cereus contamination. "The missing piece of the puzzle came when the FDA announced the recall for the Triad alcohol pads and swabs for the exact bacteria contamination that killed my son," says his mother, Sandra Kothari. "These alcohol wipes are used every day in hospitals, clinics and homes. People think they're safe." The Food and Drug Administration's website says "use of contaminated Triad Alcohol Group Prep Pads, Alcohol Swabs or Alcohol Swabsticks could lead to life-threatening infections, especially in at-risk populations, including immune suppressed and surgical patients." Triad Group has sold millions of these alcohol prep products in the U.S., Canada and Europe. Triad Group Alcohol Prep products are used to disinfect an area prior to an injection. They were distributed to hospitals, retail pharmacies, and were included in a number of prepackaged injection kits. The affected products were marketed under the "Triad Group" label and many other private labels, including: Cardinal Health, PSS Select, Walgreens, CVS, Equate, Kroger, Life Brand, NovaPlus, Publix, Rite Aid, Rexall and Safeway. Jim Perdue, Jr. and Donald Kidd are board certified in personal injury trial law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Perdue & Kidd, L.L.P. has a national law practice based in Houston, Texas. www.infectioncontroltoday.com/news/2011/02/contaminated-alcohol-pad-blamed-for-sudden-death-of-child.aspx#

How in bloody hell can an alcohol prep be contaminated? That's a pretty damn miraculous bacteria to be living in rubbing alcohol. I am thinking that smelling it wont pose such a risk? This is just weird. Out of all things that could get contaminated..... wtf.
The last hospital I worked at changed the IV insertion prep sites from using alcohol to Chlorhexidine Gluconate.

I wouldn't risk it! While chances are higher through an open wound, risk for pneumonia would still exist. And this seems to be a funky bacterium!

I was shocked that it was living there, too! It's a HUGE recall, though. Alcohol swipes are cheap. I'd just buy a different brand, but this seems to cover a ton of brands.

I've been taking the zofran for 1+ days now, every 4-hours. It has constipated me! LOL I took a Dulcolax last night, but I don't know that it is working. The Zofran is working a charm on the nausea/vomiting, though!

For those whom Zofran doesn't help all the way, awesome medicine available darn near everywhere but U.S. called Diclectin. It used to be available in the U.S., but not anymore. Been around for over 50 Yrs. It's composed of doxylamine succinate (spelling?) and vit B6. My doctor is having me buy the components OTC and use it myself. That w the Zofran is amazing for me. Sometimes I need both meds plus the SeaBands, but I'm over the moon to have something that helps! My weightloss has stopped the freefall now.

I just caught up on this thread. When I was on tpn we had so many supplies delivered to us tons of alcohol pads that of course we kept. I told Seth to use them for the the troop. At campouts the boys are always falling and getting hurt and I put some in my first aid kit for here too. I will have to look and make sure they are not on the recall list. Thanks for the info that is scary.
