Hi ladies-
I know this thread is a billion pages long, but i got through page 7 and couldn't find any comments about this. Has anyone been on lupron WITHOUT doing add back therapy? I did my first treatment of lupron (4 months) without add back, going back on lupron now and my doctor says i HAVE to do add back this time or i can only have two more injections. It makes no sense to me, if i'm trying to stop my body from producing any hormones, why would i put them back in?! I feel like its just wasting my time... If you were on lupron w/out add back how long were you on it? It seems like everyone goes on lupron and does the add-back and has horrible side effects. I really didnt have bad side effects on my first time and im nervous if i do the add back, the second time around is going to be hell..any thoughts?

I was on Lupron for 6 months and never received add back therapy. I honestly didn't even realize that they could do add back therapy. I didn't have bad side effects. The usual, hot flashes, gained weight, but otherwise did fine with it.

heres a really far fetched idea... what if the add back is making everybody so miserable? I never had any horrible side effects while on lupron (4 months) and never received add back therapy...... things that make you go hmmmmmm....

Never done Lupron, but anything that messes with your hormones, add back or not, is going to have side affects. It may just be one of those things that affects different women in different ways.

I haven't been on Lupron, either, but isn't part of the reason to have add-back to help prevent significant bone loss? No sense in helping to relieve one problem but cause another if that's the case.

yes karen it is, its also used to allivate the side effects, hot flashes, insonmia, migraines, etc... i just dont undertstand the reasoning behind putting more estrogen into your body when you're trying to get it out, kinda seems pointless. Hmm. I'm not a doctor though~ I'm just getting through my first week of lupron - hasnt been horrible at all. Guess it just gets along with my body?

Yeah I guess the whole point is that the docs are doing it for a good reason, I've done GnRH with and without add-back. Horrible side effects either way. I initially thought I was ok without add-back but the headaches were awful

I was on it for 3 months without add back. My only noticeable side effect was mild hot flashes. I took calcium while I was on it to try to help counteract bone loss. Unfortunately, Lupron really didn't help my pain, so I didn't see a reason to get a second injection.
