I thought I would let you guys know that I found a chemical free hair dye. it`s called Henna - I got it at Lush. it is also cheaper than buying the chemical stuff. and the best part is that it covered my grey hair..... The only down fall is that it doesn`t come in blond, just brown, red, and black. It is a little more work, and a little bit more messy but well worth it.

Whoa that's cool! Is it permanent or will it fade?

Oooh as soon as I saw the topic title I was gonna suggest henna! Jenaya I think it fades but it's good to reapply whenever.

I thik it stains pretty bad if you get it on surfaces you shouldn't get it on! It's used for tattoos too.

Yeah I've heard of the henna tattoos. They're pretty! So if I dye my hair with henna hair dye, will it get on my clothes like around the neck of my shirts?

If you let it....when I colour my hair I usually wear an old black t-shirt so it doesn't matter.

LOL no I meant like days later. Like if I go to the gym and sweat while wearing a white shirt...

No it doesn`t stain any time except when it is wet when you are applying it, I just put down a towel on the ground, and any time some got on the counter while dying it I just wiped it off right away with a paper towel. There is no doubt that it is messy going on, but I think it is worth it to be chemical free, I do believe that it will wash out, not stay permentely, but the package did talk about applying it to my roots, so who knows.

I've dyed my hair plenty of times. I know how messy it can get so I guess I'm prepared for that. I was asking about the staining of shirts because some hair coloring products stain even after the application. Like the hair glosses you can get at a salon will stain your clothes even days later.
I wanna try this henna stuff! My hair is due for a coloring anyways!

Black henna often has bad stuff in it.
I tried the ash color henna, and it turned my hair green for years!

wow - so sorry about the green hair, that is awful, what color is your hair naturally. my hair is dark brown, and I used a brown henna, and it has come out well.

I seem to remember that after using henna, you can't ever use anything else - say if you did it dark and wanted to go back and have highlights later, the henna although natural does something to the hair so it has to grow all the way out before you can do any other stuff.
Of course if you always use the same color, and it's darker than your normal color, or if you're coloring over gray, then it's a great option!
