Just curious about how many of you got any relief from dysmenorrhea [painful periods] with the use of any type of hormonal birth control. I know it varies from person to person, but how long did it take for it to provide relief?
Or if it didn't when did you decide that it wasn't helping?

You know, I didn't really have painful periods before I went on birth control. I had pain with ovulation, sometimes bowel movements, and during intercourse. But when I did go on birth control, those symptoms improved dramatically in about a month. It was pretty darn amazing. I'm on the nuva ring and am just about symptom free!

I still do get random pains here and there but nothing that I can't handle. I am still able to function normally even though I'm feeling slight pain/cramping sometimes.

Thanks...I've heard good things about the ring. Apparently it's very tolerable. I'd love to give it a try but my doctor suggested that I take something with a strong anti-androgen.

Are you taking anything now? How is it working for you??
BTW I LOVE the nuva ring. I've been on tons of birth controls, IUD, etc... all of which wrecked me. The nuva ring doesn't make me sick, doesn't make me crazy... I love it.
The only side effect I experienced was weight gain. I gained about 15lbs in the first 2 months of being on it and it was extremely depressing. I have since lost the weight but I'm so obsessed with eating healthy now because I don't want to do that again! But in that same respect, when I took birth control pills, not only did they make me sick and crazy but I gained 40lbs!!! So when I gained 15lbs with the nuva ring, I freaked out because I thought I was going down the same road of gaining 40lbs again.
Overall, the 15lbs I gained is nothing compared to the amount of relief I got from the endo symptoms.

A good friend of mine was on Nuvaring for a while but because of her PCOS, her face was breaking out awful so they switched her to a higher estrogen pill. Otherwise, she loved it. On the pill, she's getting migraines again...
I liked Nuvaring the best out of the BC I was on, but I was on it when my problems started. I do think it kept a lot of my symptoms at bay for a while, though!
