I actually got into this, for a minute, today. Every time I go to get my nails done, they have soccer on, and they had it on, again. Found myself cursing, when that one dude was on the ground, and kicked wide of the goal. Ah, well.

Yeah, it must've taken Ghana another effing 3 days to score another point, but they got us 2-1.

haha you sound like a less snotty and superior version of my sister I do completely agree that it's backwards that we have football, which there is no foot to ball contact, and soccer, with is al foot to ball contact. *shrug*

Hmm, difference between me and your sister is that I'm English :-) Anyways, we're out now - to our footballing nemesis also known as 'Germany'. It's simple, there's 'football', as the rest of the world knows it, and there's 'American Football', which is how the rest of the world differentiate the two.

God, didn't we (England) just play like S**t today! Though we should have been allowed that goal - not that it would have done us much good. Fabio didn't do well in his post match interview with Gabby Logan either - he needs to improve his English! At least we can focus on Wimbledon now!

Wimbledon Schmimbledon :-). I thought there were moments of pure genius football, there were just more from Germany! There'll be a huge post mortem over this, and rightly so. I firmly believe every country should have a national coaching the national team. Being given that goal could have totally shifted the mentality of the game and it could have been a totally different result. We'll never know. Bring on 2012!

I actually watched some of the england/germany game today on tv. My son started soccer this year (he's 5), and my fiance is an ex goalie, so it was fun watching it with them. My son says "wow, they are really good". although his games consisted of the ENTIRE team running after the ball, kicking and missing. lol

Soccer: it's just a word. It's like calling something 'pop' your whole life, and then learning that the rest of the world calls it 'soda' or whatever. It's just baffling, then you just have to laugh, especially if like many usa folks (like me) you grow up literally from age 4 or 5 playing soccer(just a descriptive term, after all) all the damn time, running around like an idiot getting screamed at by game-crazed parents, etc, then when (like me) you grow up, and visit the UK, and learn about footie, and the absolute culture of it over there, or (like me) your brother marries a Brit, who goes all batsh!t each and everytime she hears the dreaded 'S' word, even while (like her) you live in TEXAS, where they really don't even KNOW about the United Kingdom, much less footie; and to conclude, if (like me) you know about all of this, then you just have to sit there and chuckle quietly to yourself how feckin hilarious it all is. Right now there are two s%**er balls, right out there in the front yard, and I don't even have kids.... And I don't know the score of the World Cup either.... but ladies thanks for the snappy repartee, it was awesome!

I think South America is the envy of the world when it comes to footie. So much class. Soccer, well, yeah, it's not an incorrect term, it's just not what the rest of the world use. It sounds too formal I s'pose. The English call 'soda' 'pop', the Scottish call it 'juice' which used to infuriate me at uni cos juice is juice from fruits and veg, not pop!

haha pretty you make me laugh. My little sister (a wanna be Brit) totally flips B!tch when she hears someone say soccer, and then goes on a 5 minute rampage about how nobody from the US know anything else about the rest of the world. LOL, and shes from America!! Although I also do understand that we are the odd ones in the world and are quite possibly the only country that isn't completely caught up in "football", about you start superbowl playoffs and WATCH OUT! Also...Is there another country other than Canada that's so hyper about hockey?
