I'm kind of letting my fiance pick out our first song because I want to see what he would pick for us.
Last night he suggested "free" by the Zac Brown Band. He really likes the band, and mentioned that it's not a traditional song, which he likes.
My only real issue with the song is the part where the say "we don't have a lot of money" about 7 or 8 times. The point is that all we need is each other, but I think it might kill the moment.
Opinions? Any suggestions for another untraditional, not super mushy but appropriate song?

Hi Lizzylou My DH and I got married in March this year and we just couldn't decide what to have. Anyhoo, the day before the wedding, I was at home sticking the cones together for the petals to throw and he came running in saying he had heard a song on the radio by John Mayer. Turned out it was "Free Fallin'" which was originally by Tom Petty but JM did a cover of it. You might love it or hate it but we just adored it and it made a great first dance. It was more about the general vibe of the song rather than any specific lyrics. Have a listen. xx

We couldn't decide on a song either and we let our wedding planner pick it out. haha She ended up picking "At last" by etta james. It actually worked out because we dated long distance for so long that it kinda was an "at last!" moment.

I work for a wedding photographer and I've been to a gazillion weddings. I have to admit, there are SO many details that the couple (bride fret over and in the end, no one notices a few song lyrics that don't quite fit the situation! Do what makes you feel good, and pick something that you'll be glad to listen to in 20 years, and don't sweat the details!

Jenaya, I can't believe it, we picked 'at last' by etta james off of a R&B collection I random impulse bought while over-spending at the Anchorage Nordstroms... I realized while dancing to it at our reception that it makes me sound like a lonely, dried-up old hag... LOL. Next lifetime I'm gonna get a song that's all about a man waiting his life away for ME!
And by the way, your new picture is way cute, you look so carefree. Quit smirking like that!

I realize people probably won't notice the lyrics, but I will. haha.
I really like "at last" although that's one of those super romantic mushy songs he doesn't like.
