Does anyone know if it is the progestin / progesterone that causes diarrhea in so many women who experience IBS-D symptoms along with their periods, or if its the absence of?
I am so confused and I can't find out what hormones are dominant when (like when in our cycle is progesterone highest in our bodies)?

I did discuss this with my OBGYN and she says that the progesterone surge that happens mid-cycle is responsible for this. For those women who are sensitive to those surges, it can bring about diarrhea. Just wanted to follow-up on this thread for anyone who might read.

Yes, there is a progesterone surge just after ovulation, but I thought you were describing diarrhea with your period, which is when progesterone is tapering off. And consider that it might not be sensitivity to hormones, but it may actually be a hormone imbalance...
