I watched The Road the other night, it made me cry and I found myself a bit disturbed by and simultaneously intrigued by the dark future, I believe the genre is known as dystopian. Just waiting for my book to arrive now but I hear good things! I'm reading The Time Traveller's Wife right now, (and Wedlock, and Michael Palin's Himalaya for added confusion) which I can't say I'm engrossed in but I'm keeping at it as I can feel something building.

I have moxed feelings about this - generally I prefer to read a book before I see the movie of of it. I have quite a vivid imagination and like to let my mind make the characters up, but I can often be disappointed with a movie. If I watch the movie first, when I read the book I see the characters someone else made up. I think the Harry Potter films have been done quite well, but the one I have to give most praise to is the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe from abot 4- 5 years ago. That was my favourite book when I was a kid, and when I first saw the movie I was so overwhelmed I cried - it was like somone took what was in my mind and splattered it on the screen, it was so close to how I imagined it.

I'm a little disappointed with Peter Jackson's interpretation of The Lovely Bones. There was so much in the novel that was missed that makes it such a good book, like the story of how and why the Salmon marriage falls apart. Stanley Tucci was amazing in it but I feel like his darkness is alone a focal point in the film and the story behind him isn't explained at all.

I read "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" last weekend. A friend in book club recommended it a while ago (and I think it's on our list to read in the future) so I picked it up when I was traveling. It was SO GOOD! I wanted to see the movie but made myself read the book first. Anyone see the movie and/or read the book?

I haven't done either but I've wanted to, I should pick up the book especially with the endorsement! I did see the Hunger Games this weekend, I thought it was well done and close to the book. I had read all three books, not for everyone I know. Side note, I've been meaning to start a book club at work but haven't gotten around to it, I need a kick in the pants!!

I've been told I need to read The Hunger Games, might have to check that out! FYI - I didn't think I'd really like book club or stick with it this long (2 years?), but it's a blast. I only knew one of the members going into it but got a few other good friendships out of it. Well worth it! (Is that a good enough kick in the pants?

I know, I did one years ago and loved reading books I wouldn't ordinarily have picked. I have a love/hate relationship with being the organizer though! You totally need to read the Hunger Games, you'll zip right through them I'm guessing

I remember being completely shocked when my mother joined book club in our tiny southern town. But she's enjoyed it too.

I have been trying all my life to find a movie that is my vision of what I read so far To Kill A Mockingbird with Gregory Peck is my winner. Ever since tho most movies have failed but came close...Girl Interupted was awesome. Lovely Bones was a complete fail and Running with Scissors oh dear I had such high hopes and what a let down. Hunger Games I have to read and see my niece is a extra in The Reaping scene. I have so many holds on it at the library it will be summer before I get it tho.

To Kill a Mockingbird is one of my all-time favs! Keri, can you borrow the Hunger Games from someone besides the library? It is hard to put down! So cool your neice was in the movie! My brother was an extra in that movie last year with Jake Gyllenhal and Anne Hathaway, didn't love the movie but you could see him really well.

Not a film as such but if anyone likes Hilary Mantel's Wolf Hall or the sequel Bring Up The Bodies, BBC are filming a drama series of Wolf Hall! It's about Thomas Cromwell who was Henry VIII's very important advisor if anyone is into historical fiction. Plus if you're just into Tudor history, the English reform etc, its a great read as Mantel has worked hard to get the timing and chronology and facts, better and lesser known, right. Not of the Philippa Gregory ilk (though I have most of those!) but more intelligent and lovely detail. Just great books, recommend!
