Hi all. I'm 28 and just started on Lupron for possible endo. Not sure if it was the right choice, but I guess time will tell. One problem that I've ran into that I didn't prepare for is having to explain the side effects to other people. At work, I'll have hot flashes. I've had people I don't know very well ask me if I'm okay or running a fever...everyone's very concerned about fevers nowdays. I usually just say, "Just having a hot flash!" and laugh it off. But some people continue to press, because it's not common for someone my age to have hot flashes. I really don't want to explain the whole situation to people I don't know well. Any advice on how to respond to people that press? Thank you in advance! A

I'm 23 y/o and have trouble with hot flashes due to the birth control pills. I always tell people that the meds the doctor's have me on due to some health issues cause hot flashes even in someone my age. And another thing I say is it is none of their business to what is going on with me. If I say it is a hot flash then it is a hot flash and I shouldn't have to explain my health issues to everyone. Sorry, sometimes I have a mean side to me. But people where I live are not the nicest people around.

Nah, I'm with blatt here, if you don't want to explain you shouldn't have to. Just brush it off with 'Some ongoing health issues' or even politely say it's none of their business and you don't wish to discuss it. Good luck!

id just laugh and say" starting menopause early! its a B*itch" or say, "stupid, pharmies, crazy side effects" they don't really need to know your business, just enough to know that its drugs or hormones thats causing your hot flashes. Good luck w/ lupron! keep a positive mind and stay hydrated!

Thanks for the advice! I think the "stupid pharmies" will go over well...I work in a residential treatment center and it's mainly been the nurses asking me. Lucky for me, today the boiler was acting up and it was 85 degrees inside...everyone was sweating!

I get hot flashes too and I find it's one of the only things I find funny about having endo. I tell people, "whew I'm having a hot flash!" And then laugh, while profusely sweating. I get a kick out of the confused looks I get. If they ask questions I just say, ugh I don't know, I just get hot flashes. Then they look at me like I'm crazy and shrug it off. The other thing I do is just vaguely tell people I have hormone imbalances that cause hot flashes. Usually as soon as you mention "hormones" people tend to leave the subject alone.

Hi i just finished my 6 month treatment using syneral it also gave me hot flashes for the first 4 months. Best advice for you i can give you is just tell them your taking medicine that makes you get over heated easily. Try coth ice packs on the back of your neck. They saved me.
