Ok, so at the reccommendation of almost every book whether from a professional or non-professional I've been trying to drink more water. I've attempted the whole 8 large glasses a day thing, but usually only get to 3-4 before feeling (and looking) very bloated . Seriously my stomach gets HUGE! I don't know if I am retaining and I am trying to cut down on salt as much as possible. I really don't sweat a whole lot and never have, but I do pee a lot if I drink much water or other liquids. Could that be part of it? Any suggestions?

I get the same problem. At first, my mom suggested it was the filter. When I stopped drinking filtered water that solved the problem. I think its something in the charcoal or maybe removing a necessary mineral.
Hope this helps

The filter thing doesn't seem to matter. I don't drink city water. I was purchasing water but now I have a water filter which has a ceramic filter, charcol filter, and magnetic thing. I also get bloated if I eat a lot of watermelon.

be careful with any water regime. If your body is not used to large quantities it can't process it. Its very hard on the kidneys, heart etc. You should gradually increase the water not suddenly. In older people it can actually kill them by causing CHF or congestive heart failure. The bloating is probabaly an idication that you aren't quite processing it. Slow down a little bit and try a gradual increase.

I think I will cut back to 2 glasses. That seems to be the limit before I look and feel like a cow!

How often do you drink? I find that I need to spread things out over the day in order to prevent that bloated feeling. Doesn't always work, but it seems to more of the time. My naturopath told me a few weeks ago I was dehydrated and suggested I take a swig of water every 10 minutes or so. I think that might be a bit tricky (I didn't follow those instructions, but did increase my water intake). But, I do feel like I have more energy when I drink more water. Some people think I'm crazy when I mention this, but I've been 'body brushing' each day or so for a few months. It's claimed to help clear the lymphatic system, although I can't say for sure if it really does or not, but it seems to help me with the bloat more days out of the month than without it. I'll see if I can find any info about it... (It's not the best info, but here's a start... www.intentonchange.com/Lymph.html And like I said, some people think I'm crazy, but I seem to see a benefit. And it HAS helped with cellulite, which is an added bonus...) Oh, and I saw on a tv show recently that you CAN overdose on water! Drinking too much too fast messes with the electrolytes in your body!

The best thing for water retention is, believe it or not, more water. But as the girls mentioned above dont overdo it in the beginning you will just make yourself sick. You have to increase your intake very gradually. When you drink water regularly you body will stop trying to hold on to it. Really agree with Olsenka, its great for your energy also helps keeps you regular (sorry if TMI)

Oh, also my dietican told me it doesn't have to be 8 glasses of water a day, it's just important to get liquids, which can include herbal teas, juices etc.
