My doctor has suggested i try Endep (Amitriptyline hydrochloride) for IBS. I started it last night, and am feeling very drowsy this morning.
Just wondering if anyone else has tried this (it is also an antidepressant, and can be used for various other things including tension headaches and bedwetting!)

Thought i'd put an update on this, the endep was making me sooo drowsy i was finding it really hard to get up, go to work, etc. I took a couple of days off work and slept from 8:30pm til 12 the next day....not a good sign! So i am now talking Nortriptyline (i think its called Allegron) which is very similar but with less of a sedititve effect. I still feel pretty tired but it is a lot better.
So i've noticed two good things from it so far- 1 i am sleeping a lot better and 2 i am not having as many BMs. Yay!
I have also started taking Colofac for the spasming bowel and that seems to be helping too. Feeliong good, think i've hit on a good combination. Now i need to try and focus on what pain is from endo and what is from ibs so i can work out treatment options with my gyn...

Thanks for the update, sounds like you found a good combination.
Funny thing I had one of my dogs on Amitriptyline for anxiety. Didn't work for him, I would have liked it if he was a little out of it, but he was so worried when I showed him. Sorry for the weird off topic comment. Edit: I got interupted... I just think it is interesting how my dogs have been on the same meds I, or other people have been on...

I wanted to do an update because i am so freaking happy that my bowels have been behaving for like, over a month now! It's a miracle as far as i'm concerned! I think i've only had one bad day in that whole time I highly recommend discussing this option with your dr if anyone has similar IBS or bowel issues.

I've started taking Amitriptyline tonight, prescribed by GI doc. Any thoughts - good or bad? I'm mainly worried about the drowsiness. I start work at 7.30 a.m.........
