Hi
I have made an appointment for my daughter to see a naturopath next tues and am new to this alternative therpy stuff ( I am an RN).
She's not exactly embracing the idea of this approach to treatment, as she's onlt 20 and wants to feel better NOW ( meaning she wants to take Lupron and use narcotics for pain relief) but she has agreed to trying acupuncture.
Anywaaaaaays, we get a free 20 minute consultation with an ND and I was hoping some of you could help me decide which questions re: endo treatment to ask her when we go.
Thanks for any advice

I'd start off by asking what the naturopath knows about endo. Interview this guy before you let him take charge.

Ditto what ouchy said - that's a great start!
I was a bit skeptical, too. I'm a very scientific person so it was difficult for me to really wrap my arms around it all, but I have to say, I've certainly seen the results. Pre-lap, I started out with an acupuncturist. I got some relief when she targeted points specific to my ovaries/reproductive system, but after a few sessions, wasn't getting as much relief. She tried a different set of points and it made an amazing difference -turns out they were points geared towards my intestines. At the time, I thought nothing of it until I had my lap. During my lap, they discovered adjesions with my large intestine. Coincidence? I think not! I have since stopped doing acupuncture due to the cost and not getting QUITE where I wanted to be with it, but would certainly go back for a tune up if I needed it!
I've recently started seeing a kinesiologist - he 'reads' my energy and prescribes food supplements to help support my body and heal internally all over in general - not just my reproductive organs. Funny thing? He seems to think my pancreas is the cause of a lot of my problems. I'm still in the early phases of all of this and some slight diet changes, but am incredibly amazed so far and am starting to believe him! I haven't taken ANY pain meds all week. I can't tell you how long it's been since I've been able to do that.
I say it's at least worth looking into. I'm sure there are many others that have much more experience out there, and I know that my experiences may not be the same as your daughter, but I'm really starting to believe that in order to get healing, the entire body has to be involved.
Good luck!

Oh, my whole point about that all was that don't be alarmed if they don't focus ONLY on endo. There are all sorts of other parts of the body that can support the reproductive area that may seem more indirect than we're typically used to.

I saw a naturopath, and i saw a slight improvement in my overall health. However it was too expensive, but i wish i could have kept it up. I guess the thing about naturpoathy is its not voodoo- its based on eating right and getting the right nutrients, minerals, vitamins, etc; so maybe that might make your daughter a bit more willing.
Yes first up it is a good idea to find out what they know about endo, and to get your daughter to explain her specific symptoms. Naturopaths tend to focus on the whole body, not just one aspect of it, so if she has any other problems (ie. trouble sleeping, gets cold often, is epressed, etc) make sure she mentions them as well.
My naturopath started me out on some high antioxidant tonics to get my overall energy levels higher- she said there is not point getting specific until the overall was healthy enough to deal with it. Then she started me on specific things like chaste and some other things which were utrerine specific. She also got me to focus on my diet, eat more protien and less sugar.
I quite liked that it was an overall approach, and i did feel better in general, however i dont think i was doing it long enough to see an actual improvement in the endo symptoms.
Anyway sorry this has been such a long post, i hope your daughter goes well, let us know.
