I have just recieved a refferal to see a gastroenterologist, to look into my bowel problems, abdominal pains and reflux, and i was wondering about the experiences anyone else has had with these specialists? I did a search but only found mention of seeing them. The truth is i'm a bit nervous, its always hard discussing BMs and things, and then i'm worried about tests and what it could end up being.
I am glad though to finally have this refferal, i can't wait to find out if it is something going on, or if, as it was orignally suspected, its just IBS and i just have to deal with it.
The specialist i'll be seeing is apparently a very good listener and makes patients feel very comfortable, which makes me feel a bit better about the whole thing!
I'd appreciate hearing anyone elses experiences!

I was sent to one after my lap to see if any of the endo had penetrated my bowel wall. He did a sigmoidoscopy since I had endo on the outside of the sigmoid colon. He was very professional, and I surprisingly didn't get as embarrassed as I thought I would. He was very private and conservative.

I was sent to one when i was really ill and trying to find out what was wrong with me. He performed a clonoscopy and told me i had IBS and gave me a diet to follow which didnt work. Tld me my colonoscopy was normal and i did not have any bowel issues and to focus on maintaining a healthy lifestyle.... 6 months later i found out i had severe intestinal endo, and had a double bowel re section and some rectum removed... need i say more on my experience

Oh Cass, sounds like you had a really bad time with it! I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed that i get a good one who doesn't just fob everything off as IBS...although there is that part of me that still thinks well maybe it IS just IBS....anyway time will soon tell

UGH i hate collecting poo samples!! Sorry to not use the technical term Back in March i did some testing, where for three days i had to take a sample and then drop them off at the pathologists on the way to work. This time i am sending them to a place in NSW which tests for different things...its so icky and gross, keeping your poo in a jar in the bathroom! AND i had to send it in the mail which is just plain weird!!!

Hahaha very funny replies, made me laugh... But top this, I used to work in a pathology lab and did testing on the poo! Not as bad as it sounds I'd test it under a fume hood and I got to wear gloves, but the worst thing was when people wrapped the poo in toilet paper *DONT DO THIS* it means I had to unwrap the poo meaning more touching and YUCK!! And another thing, don't jam the jar full we only need a scoop! Heehee

LMAO!! People gift wrap the poo? I know with urine samples i only half fill the jar as i dont want to look eager! maybe they think the more poo the more chance of finding something?
id need more than a fume hood and golves to disect someones waste!

hahaha this is hilarious!!! i can't believe people wrap it up, that's so gross!! I wanted to touch it the least amount possible, and it was my own, i can't even imagine cassipopeia, having to touch (or unwrap) other peoples!!!! Man i really hope the postie didn't know what he was carrying...i wonder if they list that in their job description! hahaha Don't worry i definately did not fill the jar...but at first the scoop really intrigued me, i mean how are you meant to scoop poo? Ugh it makes me feel gross!!! hahaha
