I am in the process of trying to have surgery. The endo has invaded all the way through to the inside of my bowels. I am in Ontario, Canada and have been to see 2 top gynecologists (one who is supposed to be a specialist in endo), both of whom couldn't help me due to the severity of my case. So now I am trying to travel to the CEC in Atlanta, but am trying to have OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan) cover it since no one can help me here. It has been a long process as I end up waiting 3 months to see these doctors and then they tell me they can't help me. I am hoping to get some help soon.

I'm in "consultant-limbo": my previous specialist felt that he could do no more to help other than send me to a pain management clinic and after that the GP spoke of sending me to an endo specialist, which means out of the country because there are none at all here. All the endo specialists in the UK are in England so have to go south of the border and at the moment, they won't accept out-of-area referrals that far away: I'd have to pay privately (which I have done twice already) and it's out of the question.
If and when I do find someone on recommendation, I'd happily pay for the first appointment and then ask to be put on an NHS list. Until then I just have to ride it out and keep taking the holistic approach. It may be that there are good surgeons who are not necessarily endo specialists, as I have heard of other women under the care of cancer surgeons for endo.

A lot of reproductive endocrinologists perform laps for endo. I'd see about finding one of those who has experience in bowel pathology as well.

What a load of crock that 2 top surgeons couldnt help you! mine invaded the bowel wall and neither of my 2 surgeons (gynae and colorectal) had ever operated on intestinal endo like this before. They had no idea how bad it was as I was referred to them from another gynae who performed the diagnositc lap and sent me off tho these specialists with sh*t photos and I was told initailly the pics represented superfical endo lesions! It ended up being a 6 hour surgery and alot happened but if you get a decent colorectal surgeon you will be in good hands! Its not like they are removing a second head or something!

Hi,
Just wanted to add my 2 cents worth! I get immense pain, probably the worse I get from Endo when I have my period and I need to move my bowels. I also suffer constipation. When they do eventually move it feels as though someone is dragging a knife through my rectum/bowels. I am already aware I have a retroverted uterus, but as far as I know my lap revealed it wasn't stuck to my bowels. I just figured my uterus must get so heavy and full it squashes my poor lil bowel. :s
