Just wondering what the average time would be for a cyst to resolve on its own or being on the pill. Mine is still resolving and its been a year. Is this unusual? I am trying to get a lap done because i know that i have endo but because i have had bowel surgery in the past they wont or they are hesitant to do it. I dont want to be on the pill anymore if i dont have endo, what should I do? I was told by this endo specialist that after my colonscopy if they found nothing that he would do an MRI to see how much the cyst/ovary are attached to the bowel (He says he can feel it and it is attached to the bowel, not sure if that is possible) He is a promotor of the macrobiotic diet and some acient chinese thing that he pushes because his wife (a former endo sufferer) teaches it and its expensive. So he kind of wanted me to do all of that than come back if I was still in pain. I dont want to wait anymore I am almost 30yrs old and i was told when i first got my period that they thought that i had endo and i have never had a lap. Arrrrgh i am so confused. i have another appointment with a dr that is associated with the other doctor, In march. Should i push her to do the surgery? I feel comfortable with him because he seems to know what he is taking about minus the pushing of the other things. I backed out of surgery last year in june because this one thought he was GOD and I didnt trust him at all, now i kind of wish that i went with him because i would have known by now. also i belive that it has affected my bladder and that i have sciatic endo as well. would there have to be another doctor in there?
Anyways i am so ticked off right now and fed up that i have been pushed off like this. I need them to do the lap and i want it but he made me afraid that if i did have the surgery it can cause internal bleeding again because of the previous bowel surgery and i could die. I am a single mother and I obviously dont want to die but i dont want to live in doubt either i want to know if i do have it.
Sorry to blab on and on .... any advice or answers would be great

Hey, Angela. Depends on the type and size of cyst. If it is an endometriotic cyst--"chocolate cyst," it probably won't resolve on its own. If it is just an ovulatory cyst that kept growing and growing and never ruptured, it first of all depends on the size. My gyne. said that these type of cysts typically resolve on their own within about 3 months. I shrunk mine in one month with Desogen--but I HATE birth control pills. They really mess me up, and I bled the whole month (breakthrough bleeding).
Member Janet (vatechgrad) has her ovary stuck to her colon, so she probably knows what you are going through.
My advice is don't PUSH a doctor to do a surgery. There are reasons why a doc doesn't want to perform a surgery--maybe the doctor doesn't have enough experience or skill! I think you should keep seeking a proactive, experienced doctor who WANTS to do a lap! You will most likely have the best results if you have a doctor who knows what he/she is doing and is excited about helping you and not being coerced in to it.
About backing out of your last surgery, you may think you regret it now, but ALWAYS trust your gut instinct! You probably did the right thing by not going through with it. I once went for a consultation about rhinoplasty (nose job) to one plastic surgeon. My gut said not to trust him, and 2 months later a patient died on his table having the exact same procedure I was thinking of having done! Your gut instinct is rarely wrong! So, I commend you for not doing it w/ a surgeon you didn't trust!
You might have to have other specialists--I had to have one remove my appendix during my last lap. My gyne removed all the other endo, including on my bowels/intestines. If you do have to have more than one surgeon operate on you, make darn sure they coordinate with each other!
Anyway, good luck w/ anything. Hope I wasn't too confusing!

thank you for responding. I must sound like a loonie. Anyhow the doctor that saw me is an endometriosis specialist, but for some reason i guess because his wife is supposably cured from doing what he has asked me to do he is hesitant on doing it because he believes that even if he goes in he will have to do it again and again because it never goes away. I dont think that these doctors friggen understand what I am saying. I just want them to look is all, just a simple lap. Here in canada it is like pulling teeth. He could tell by feeling the ovary attached to the bowel. So at least that is something in the last 15yrs. I know that i have severe damage inside, i can just feel it. Maybe the doctor i see in March will see my point of view and schedule an MRI and lap. I will also look for post for that other member with the ovary stuck to the bowel. Thank you so much ouchy

Hi Angela! I too am from Canada and have the EXACT frustrations you do!! Where abouts are you in Canada? If your interested, I posted a thread in the Rant and Rave section specifically about doctors and their lack of what seems to be the willingness to help. I also just found out I have a cyst, and am waiting to see the surgeon in March (after a fight of course). Hopefully some of the stuff I wrote about can help you feel a bit better! I'm here if you ever want to chat further.

Well, I'm 14 and this is my experience with trying to make the cyst go away by itself.
I was told I had a 10cm x 10cm ovarian cyst on I believe my right ovary, and a 6cm x 4cm cyst on my left ovary. Since I'm still young, my doctor put me on a birth control pill with low amounts of estrogen; Alesse.
After I went back for another ultrasound a couple of months later, it was found that the one of my right ovary had shrunk just a few centimetres. But, since this was still uncommon for people my age to have such large cysts, he told me I should probably go for a laparoscapy.
So, I don't suggest just leaving the cyst alone. If they get large, they can, as you probably know, cause huge amounts of pain every month. I ended up in the emergency twice in the span of two months, so I would choose to get the surgery if I were you. The cyst could come back, but it's not a major surgery or anything, so I'd go for it. Your doctor isn't your boss. If you want the surgery, you get it.
