Hey Ladies!
I am having a laparotomy in 2 days and I am busy getting my bag ready and I was wondering what you more experienced ladies have packed before. I don't want to forget anything important. Here is my list so far:
Slippers Gown Toothbrush Toothpaste Loose Underwear Pads Loose pants Bra Books Magazine Pajamas Gatorade Pillow (for the trip home)
Anything else to suggest?
Hugs
Gayle

I had mine about six weeks ago. Really, I didn't need much of anything since I only stayed overnight. The KEY THING for me was super large sweats and full-cut undies a size bigger than normal. I was so bloated right afterwards that my normal clothes didn't fit.

Wow you are so organised! i literally threw a heap of crap in my bag about ten minutes before i left home haha! the first week i was confined to bed and couldnt move so i didnt need anything, but for the other 2 weeks the only thing i really needed were my slippers and my i pod! my physio would disconnect all my machines and make me walk a block of the ward so iw as the funky person that would sing on my journeys haha! i woudl have died without my music.

Oh yeah -- the pillows in the car on the way home really help!!! I sat on one and had another behind my back in the back seat.

Hey Gayle, We'll be in the hospital at the same time! Although I'll just be going for a laparoscopy. Thanks for the checklist anyway I thought of some items to add, which are so abvious that I'm bound to forget them: Insurance card Official ID Hospital card and the forms they gave me a few weeks ago. And not to forget to remove all the piercings as applicable ;D Good luck!

Hi Gayle, Best of luck, i hope your surgery goes really well! Remember to take off any nail polish (fingers and toes). I'm not sure how long you're in for but you might want to take a hair brush and hair tie, or even a cosy hat/beanier you can chuck on to cover your hospital bed hair! Oh also, make sure you take your regular medications with you (i'm sure your doc will advise when to take them)
I've only had a lap/day surgery so i'm not sure what else you need, but with your list i think you should be right! Anything else you can always ask a friend to bring in or buy from the gift shop, etc.

You guys are awesome! Thanks so much. It is now only 12 hours until my surgery! A bit nervous as I am a nurse and I hate being a patient. My fiance says I should kick back and let someone else take care of me for a change as I am used to doing all the caring. LOL, I say okay.
Take care
Gayle

if you were contacts make sure to bring those and your case along with contact solution...unless you don't mind being blind after the surgery i had a list like yours, also for my questions to the doctor, and all i remember before being put under was the doctors saying "oh a list! i love people that use lists"...and that was that. GOOD LUCK!!!
