I'm considering hypnosis to deal with my period pain. I've been taking the pill continuously for at least 4 years now, and i really hate the side effects. They are so bad that i'm considering coming off of it and dealing with the pain, but then i remember how horrible it is and i can't face it. I was thinking with the help of hypnosis i could come off the pill and deal with the pain. Has anyone tried this approach? was it successful? It's quite an expensive venture so i wanted to know if anyone else had had success with it. Thanks!

Hi! Glad you started this thread. We have several posts dealing with hypnosis, but this is the only so entitled thread that I could find! I have used hypnosis to help with pain and had a customized cd crafted from one of my sessions. While expensive (mine was like 100 USD/hr), it was TOTALLY worth it! I also did hypnobirthing, which gave me a labor for 24 hours that felt like a massage in my uterus so much so that none of the nurses believed I was in labor except for the electronic monitoring I had inserted to measure contractions. If you can't afford customized sessions with a licensed hypnotherapist (actually...even if you can spare the change), I'd highly recommend getting the book "Hypnobirthing, the Mongan Method." It's for labor, and after all, that's basically what we go through each month w/ endo. I can tell you that in my 24 hours of labor (with the evil Pitocin drug that makes contractions worse than the real thing), I never had a contraction worse than my worst period cramp. The Hypnobirthing book will teach you how to breathe through the cramps and work with them, instead of against them. Also has imagery that completely shuts off pain. It's amazing. Here is a link to one of the threads that talks about hypnosis. cjlevett.proboards33.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=pain&thread=2229&page=1(Moving this to the "natural treatments" forum.)

ouchy, thanks for the info! i'm glad it has worked for you. The more I read about it, the more i want to try it. I just want to be free of this hormonal mess i live in with the pill. I want to feel normal again, and of course not to be in excrucitiating pain all of the time!

We have more posts on it, and I think the link I gave you sucks. LOL. Sorry. My therapist had me visualize the endometriomas shrinking into oblivion, etc. Seriously, though. I think the Hypnobirthing book is the best thing for endo cramps! You can get it at the library, possibly! ETA: There's even a CD w/ it...but I never listened to it.

I've just started a course of hypnotherapy for anxiety. I think as we go along we'll work on health issues as well. So far it's very natural and does not feel weird at all. I meditate quite a bit and I'm level one Reiki. So far I'm enjoying it.

I have just had two hypnotherapy sessions, not so much for pain but more for depression, stress, and in general feeling crappy. The first session i was very nervous (i dont like talking to people about how i feel) but the woman made it very easy to trust her. She told my subconcious a story about a little girl called rachel who carried a sack of heavy rocks around, one rock for all the bad things i'd mentioned to her, simply because i thought i had to. Then i threw the rocks into a lake one by one. The first session actually made me cry. The week after i felt so much better. More positive, more able to cope, it was just amazing. When i went back for my second session, she was so happy with my progress- said she could see in my face how much of a change there had been. The second session i was so much more relaxed, i don't actually remember a lot of what she said, but it was just re-inforcing the positive messages. I also have an affirmation to read out loud every morning and night, something like 'my body and all of its organs were created by the power of my subconcious mind, and this wonderful power is healing me right now".
After the second session, she said i don't even need to come back. I'm so happy. It's actually really amazing the change i feel. Juts a lot more able to cope with life. Anyway who is considering, i would DEFINATELY reccommend hypno. Its safe, non invasive, and very relaxing. It is quite expensive though, mine was $100 each time, an hour and a half for the first session and an hour for the second. But so very worth it. And now i know i have a safety net too- if i start not being able to deal again, i can go back for a 'booster'. It is a fantastic feeling!

I've got to look into it for my up-coming labor. I'll see if I can't check that book out from the library.
