Hi everyone... I'm kind of just having a grumble today, I have finally found a Naturopath that I think can help me. Have been seeing her for around a month now and although I don't think anything has changed/helped yet (apparently I won't notice results for 3mths) I'm hoping it will... My problem is my financial status after seeing her... has anyone experienced how expensive it is? I have spent approx $530 in a month on medications and consultations with her... and I'm not in the healthiest financial situation to begin with but I feel I have no other option than to try the alternative treatments, I don't trust drugs the doc prescribes me anymore because the BC pill caused my cervix to have an abnormal growth (CIN1) and that was for my endo treatment! My naturopath has me on Endofem pills - Dong Quai, Chinese Peony, Lady's Mantle & Calendula Flowers. Chaste Tree pills. And for my pain Cramplex pills - Corydalis ambigua, Ginger, Raspberry, Wild Yam & Viburnum Opulus. She also has me taking magnesium to load my muscles with the magnesium and minimise cramps. Is anyone else on something similar? Has it helped you? Is it worth me spending all this money? I don't want to put a price on my health but OUCH! it hurts parting with that money!! Thanks!

Hey
Yes, I know all too well about the cost of it but she is right, you have to give it 90 days (3 months) before you will see full changes. I did it with acupuncture and herbs and it did work. Just have faith and try and swallow the cost because, in my opinion, it is worth it. Dunno what the exchange rate is but my acu treatments cost £50 a pop and herbs £17.50 per pot of 60 pills. Therefore:
Month 1 - Acu treatment every week - £200 Herbs £17.50 Month 2 - Acu treatment every 2 weeks - £100 Herbs £17.50 Month 3 - Acu Treatment every 2 weeks - £100 herbs £17.50
Total for 3 months £452.50 just for the 3 months
I have carried on seeing her every month at £50 a pop but I feel that it works for me.

I saw an acupuncturist/herbalist for about 2 months at the beginning of the year. I spent about $400-$500 a month in doing so. I had to quit because I just simply couldn't afford it any longer. He was having me come in for 2-3 sessions a week, and although I felt acute relief with every session, it just wasn't worth the money I was spending. I guess if I would have stayed with it a little longer things might have changed, but that is ALOT of extra money to come up with every month. I guess it depends on everyone's situation...if you're desperate enough, and it provides relief, it's hard to put a price tag on that. Good luck

nothing to add on the naturopath advice, because I haven't tried it, but a British pound is worth just under $2 right now, so minnie's 3-month total cost would be roughly $900.
Hope it works for you, cassiopeia!

I too spent major $$ on 10 months of acupuncture and herbs. At the time I had the money(not any more). I did have a significantly, quantifiable positive result. Because I wanted children so badly it was worth it, without that motivation I don't know if it would have been worth it because I didn't have horrible daily pain.

Eep now i'm scared! I've got my first naturopath apppointment tomorrow and i'm worried its going to end up costing me a fortune! It will be $75 for the first appointment and $40 for following appointments (luckily i can get a small rebate from my private health cover) but it is more the cost of treatments/herbs that im sure will add up.
I am looking forward to it though, as it will be nice to have someone look at the whole of me and try to get everything sorted not just treat one thing. They also have a counsellor and a range of other therapists (acupuncture, reflexology, massage, hynotherapy, etc) in the same place so depending on how it goes tomorrow i might try something else too, which again will add up.
I figure it can't be any worse than what i already pay in doctors bills and prescription meds, and im hopinh i'll be able to come off some/mpost of them.

Hey, Just letting you all know that its been a few months now I'm still seeing my naturopath and although it has been expensive, I believe that the treatment is helping I have noticed my main symptom lower back pain is less apparent n I don't get as much pelvic pain, however... since going off the pill I haven't had a period, thats something we working on fixing at the moment... I had my first accupunture treatment on monday and I was told I have a lot of heat in my upper burner (sounds funny I know but apparently thats whats causing my lack of periods) so I am gonna see the acupunturist for at least 3 more sessions, my naturopath is also sending me for some blood tests to check my hormone levels etc. anyways... I'm getting off the track. My point was to say that my naturopath is wonderful and supportive, I believe in her and the treatments I'm on so the money side of things doesn't bother me so much anymore. I hope you (Rach) get the same benefits out of your treatments, its much better to be treating your whole body and the actual problem then to be masking the symptoms.

Oh, I'm so happy it is going so well for you! I truly believe in getting the whole body healthy b/c we are not a bunch of disparate parts, but a whole. I wish it weren't so $$$ but if one has the money it is definitely worth it! Keep us informed Cass, I would love to hear about what they found, what tests they are doing, diet, herbs anything else they might say.

I figured this would be a good a place as any to have a quick whinge about how darn NASTY the herbal tonic i'm taking is!!! For the last fortnight i was taking one that i thought was bad, but compared to this new one its nothing. It tastes like a mixture of tequila and bark, and seriously makes me feel like throwing up! So hard to convince myself to take it three times a day, and even harder to not follow it with chocolate to take the taste away!!!
I'm glad to hear Cass that seeing a naturopath has helped you, it gives me more motivation to stick at it (obviously it takes time) and helps me believe that i'm doing something good for my body.
Oh and also, regarding the money side of things, i'm not finding it too bad yet... i get a $25 rebate from my health fund for a $40 appointment, and at the moment the herbs are costing me $35 for 2 weeks...and she has already said that the plan is for me one day to not need to even take the herbs...so i'm not freaking out too much about it at this stage!
Anyway lets keep fingers crossed that it works- they do say that things that don't taste nice are usually good for you!

My naturopath said I can have it with some kind of fruit nectar like mango... so what I do is measure out my 10mls that I take and then top it up with mango nectar so its like a little shot... stil tastes horrible and then I follow it with a small glass of fruit juice... Read my latest thread I have info/answers to some of your Q's Hope all is going well Rach )

I take my tincture with cranberry juice. I put the tincture quickly in my mouth and then drink the cranberry juice and swallow it together. My doc said as long as I don't drink too much of the juice it will not hurt the effectiveness. Hope this helps! I und about wanting to chase it with chocolate!!! I feel your pain! What is in your tincture? Just curious.

An herbslist put me on three droppers full (full squeeze, not just drops) of chaste tree tincture 3x a day and half dropper of motherwort for cramps as needed, dandilion as well for absorbtion & liver support- it will balance hormones to where it cancels birth control but I was improved within a week! Try it before you go back. The pills have very little chaste tree and that's the most effective. Research it yourself. Rasberry leaf infusion when in pain. Go to an herb store and talk to the owner. Do the research yourself. That's how I got my life back, and you can get chaste tree by the quart for $30!
Btw, I posted a massage my partner happened on yesterday. I don't kno how safe it is or how well it will help others, but wow! I feel great right now for the first time in years...
Good luck!
