Sorry in advance for the dodgy title.
I frequently get floaters (little black dots) in my line of vision around the time of my period and I have been told by the acupuncturist that this is a related problem. Does anyone else get these and if so do you notice them around the time of menstruation?

Hi, Floaters are really a common issue and not thought to be related to endometriosis. They are harmless. You need only worry if you have sudden visual loss or impression of a curtain coming down or shadow in your vision, which is a sign of a detached retina. Even so, this only usually happens to people in middle age and beyond and is rare. There are recorded incidences of women having bleeding in the eye during a period, which is endo related. Other serious visual signs are severe pain in the eye and flashes of bright light or changes in colour vision. If you are experiencing any diffculty with your eyesight or visual loss, you should see an optometrist for an eye test. I have a rare eye condition so am used to having the occasional panic about vision and have been through the gamut of visual tests, and understand concerns about vision are frightening. I have asked about floaters and on their own they are really nothing to worry about and unless accompanied by other serious signs, are not investigated and best left alone. If in doubt, see an optometrist. All the best, Minnie.

I also get floaters. They do not go away for me, but mine are related to migraines. My neurologist told me that migraine is not headaches, it is a disease. Some people get different symptoms and never get headaches. My sister and I both suffer from migraines. however she stopped taking the pill and hers went away. I have not yet but they have diminished from what they used to be. So I have a lot of little spots in my vision all the time. When I tell people what it is, I refer to them as looking like dust on your eye if you can imagine that. They move around when I move my eyes to look at other objects also.

I always use to get floaters and whenever I stood up I would completely lose my vision for a few seconds it was realllly scary! I went to the eye doctor and it turned out because I was straining my eyes so much because I needed glasses that I was causing more damage! I would go see your eye doctor. Sometimes you just get them for looking at a light or standing up too quickly but you may need galsses.

I have been thinking about going that route. Thanks, Jen

Mine are also caused by migraines which in turn are linked to my menstrual cycle.
