I am starting to wonder why people refer to womens periods as their "Monthly" when so many women have to deal w/ irregular bleeding, including me! I am 19 years old and have had endo for going on two years. I know that endo alone can cause irregularities, but I have been bleeding for almost 7 out of 9 months... and it has been too "regular". Two days ago I went to the doctor because I thought I was having a miscarriage, and I had no idea if I was pregnant or not, but the bleeding and pain have never been so bad... I mean the blood was literally puring out of me... I was soo scared! Especially since I had just gotten done with bleeding for 2months non stop from December 8th - February 22nd. Before that I bled for four months non stop after my july,2006 lap. I stopped bleeding for about a month just because i was on the ring, but now my doc's are saying now or never for pregnancy and I can't risk having the birth control leave me infertile for anywhere up to a year or more... I just don't have that amount of time. Anyway I guess what I was getting at is the fact that I stopped bleeding for only 3 weeks and now its back and worse than ever... I just don't know what to do, i'm so tired all the time now and I feel like I'm losing my mind! My boyfriend of 2 years is only 22 and we have sex like 3 times a month if were lucky and I know that it has to be taking a toll on us and all of my friends have quit calling... I guess it's just no fun hanging out with someone thats sick. If someone could give me some sort of advice I would really appreciate it B/c I'm feeling really scared and lost right now and don't know what to do.

Hi, bad19. Sorry for all you are going through! I know HOW annoying, tiring, and aggravating constant breakthrough can be! Have you been experiencing this bleeding while on the pill or something? I saw that the ring stopped it for you, but was that just a change from a pill you were on? Or are you bleeding on your own? If you are not on a pill or anything and experiencing bleeding like that, you might request a hormone check. I've read that sometimes low estrogen can lead to bleeding like what you're describing (And you DON'T have to be estrogen dominant to have endo.). If your current doctor doesn't take it seriously that you bleed for the duration of time that you do, I'd seriously seek out another doctor. You could become anemic or something from bleeding like that. And, it's also important to find out why. It's obviously not normal, and you should really pursue finding a cause so you can get it fixed. It may be something as simple as oestrogen tabs. But it just depends on your lab work. Anyway, keep us posted. My fingers are crossed for you that everything perks up and starts to go right!

I was not on the pill, my doctor just said that the ring may prove helpful for the bleeding, but I quit taking it b/c I dont want the effects to last too long or I may never be able to get pregnant. And I don't think any doctor has ever really taken it seriously because even when I went to the ER they just narrowed it down to the endo w/o even giving me a pap. All they did was drug me up, write me a script, and send me home. It mase me so mad b/c the bleeding was so bad that when I was getting changed into my gown it was running down my leg... I would have thought they'd at least give me an Ultra Sound or something... All anyone keeps telling me is to lose weight, but when I'm losing so much blood, and can hardly get out of bed in the morning, it's kind of hard to do so.

You really need to get that sorted.
Push the doctors so they investigate thoroughly, and if your getting nowhere see a different doctor.
In the very least you need to be keeping an eye on your iron levels, and yeah id get your hormone levels checked too. There will be a solution out there and you need to find it, the bleeding your having is very serious, dont give up, keep looking for the answer.

Yep. You need to find another gynecologist. That is defnitely abnormal bleeding and can be dangerous.

Hi bad19, sorry about how bad you're feeling, your screen name says it all! Has your doc looked into something to give you a rest from the bleeding for a while? I had always thought I felt bad when going through long bleeds so I can imagine you must feel awful. One very long bleed I had my doctor found I was quite anaemic and suggested that it was making it harder for me to stop bleeding. I know the iron made me feel a little better, and I did stop bleeding a week after I started the iron. I have taken something called dicynene to curb the bleeding, and last time it was a 6 week bleed due to hormonal changes, they stopped that with just max doses of tranexamic acid. They can't blame this on any weight problems alone it sounds awful. How they are not taking this seriously is beyond me, but I have come across that too. It's infuriating when you feel so crappy, but they're like 'hey you only rated your pain 5 out of 10 so it can't be much to worry about' Honestly though, I have felt so run down and weary and emotional just from ordinary periods lately so I really feel for you, hope you get sorted soon xx

I am in the same boat bad19, i just had a 16 day long peroid, and 7 day break and now its 8 days of bleeding so far, so signs of stopping. running down my legs every morning, im sooo sleepy all the time, i have to drink coffee just to stay awake in class. my new gyn has heard me say all this to him, all he said was to keep taking my pain meds, and in may when my implanon bc is due to be taken out he will remove it and start me on the pill thats 3months on, 1 week off. i was ok with this when i left the office as i thought the bleeding was calming down... but yeah. its just getting worse. i've been dealing with bleeding like this for years, the only thing any gyn has ever suggest was to be on 2 bc's at once. uhm not for me. ive never had my hormone levels checked... maybe ill see if he will do that

Ugh, that sounds AWFUL! Bleeding that much cannot be good for you! I'm sorry that the only solution you've been given is to take more BC... that just doesn't seem right to have to double-up. Have you been checked out for fibroids or any other cause at all, or they blaming it on 'just endo'? Though I think you need to have your hormone levels checked, you'd have to wait until you've been off BC for a few months. Levels won't be accurate when you're on BC.
If you've gotten the full work-up and are still without answers, I'd really really really encourage you to see a naturopath or a doctor that at least can give you a few more options. If a naturopath is cost-prohibitive, consider seeking a D.O. instead of an M.D. so you can perhaps get a different point of view, but have it covered by insurance. Having to double-up on BC seems more like a shot in the dark than anything... I think your doctor is grasping at straws, and you need some relief!!

Tara - ever have your thyroid checked? Random question, I know, but I was just doing some reading on thyroid issues and excessive bleeding came up. I'm talking a full thyroid panel, including Tsh, free t3, free t4, antibodies, etc.

Glad someone is at least digging a bit deeper with things! I'm not saying this will be the case for you, but mine came back normal for over 10 years. That's because they were only checking TSH and not anything else. There's a lot more to the thyroid than just that one lab... Anyway, I hope your testing turns up at least something in one way or another!
