I have to remember which book I read it in!!! BUT---the most informative book I have started reading is called "Taking Charge of your Fertility." It's great! SOOOO informative! One of the best things I have learned from it is that the quality of cervical mucus is the BEST predictor of fertility! I need to post a thread on it. I'll do that when I return home from my vacation.

I just read this post for the first time and for as long as i can remember I have had blood clots during my period. Sometimes I would have a intense cramp and there would be a massive clot. It can get pretty nasty at times.

ok, I'm going to be quite gross, but how big are the clots you experience? I've been asked by drs since I started getting quizzed about endo if 'I have clots or flooding'. I say no because I've had small clots (as I see them) all my adult life - so what constitutes abnormal i.e. endo clots?

blood clots or flooding?
Never been asked it like that. Ive always had blood clots, not as big as some of these stories, but big enough, and often enough.
Ive never directly correlated the clots to cramps, but the more clots present often the worse the pain, but thats not the rule.
But i guess now that i think about it ive also had what might be called flooding, although i never considered it abnormal, where i could feel the blood coming out, alot at once, could fill up a pad in one hit.
Interestingly enough, and my fingers are crossed that this becomes normal, my last period was very light (which is prob just normal) and no clots at all. Ive recently started on a bunch of supplements and herbs, including evening primrose and vitex, am hoping thats the difference and this is permanent.
But the pain is no better, and as usual, my pain got progressively worse as my period went on. But im not complaining, and improvement is a positive. I just hope it wasnt random luck.

You can have HUGE clots and not have endo. From what I've read, clots are often associated with ovulation problems. Since I've changed my diet and fixed my ovulation, I've had no clots. The biggest clot I've ever had was probably about 3 inches long and 2 inches wide.

I've noticed an increase in the number and size of clots I'm getting during my period over the last 2-3 months. My period just came today and I've had several very large (for me) clots, around 8cm x 2cm. They are very pale red with almost some clear or slightly blue bits. They really scared me because I've never had anything remotely like that, only much smaller, redder ones before.
I'm wondering if this means my endo is getting worse again? I've no other new symptoms and I don't especially have a lot of pain when I pass these clots.
Are there any specific reasons why clots would increase?
Any thoughts gratefully received. Maybe it's just endo doing it's thing, but I thought I'd ask as I'm a bit freaked out.
Apologies, I searched for clot/clots, but didn't find this one first time.

Hi, scarlett. I don't know if it necessarily means your endo is getting worse. My friend doesn't have endo (has had a lap), and she has golf ball sized clots with each period she has.
There are a lot of factors that can contribute to clots, but as you'll see at the top of this page, There's not a single person here with endo who has never had clots with periods. So, it could mean a lot of things. Have you asked your doctor about it?

Thanks Ouchy, it's good to know it's not necessarily bad news. I guess I was feeling sorry for myself that day too with my period having arrived and so I sort of panicked when I saw the bigger than normal clots.
I haven't asked my dr because I haven't seen the one who knows a lot about endo for a while. I don't think my gp would be a lot of help. Maybe I'll mention it to her anyway though, you never know.

I get clots during my period. I have a really bad cramp and can feel myself opening when the clot comes out. It's normally very thick and a very dark red in color. Infact it's half the size of a kidney. I never had this problem before marriage ( i was a virgin until my wedding night). The clots started a few months later ..when i started to notice the pain during sex.

^I had a blood clot pass when I was 12 that was really big. It was after not having my period for several months. I thought it was a baby and that I'd gotten pregnant from the bathtub after my brothers or stepfather took a bath! LOL! You can read the silly story here, if you want. It will cheer you up about blood clots! cjlevett.proboards33.com/index.cgi?board=fun&action=display&thread=1140140853

I started getting blood clots about age 17 and have them with every period, some months are bigger than others. I also get real think endometrial linning being pushed out every month which usually causes me the biggest pain.
