Hi, Meka. What you are describing sounds just like what I experience. Big clots/chunks of endometrium. I have also noticed that my bad cramps conincide with when I am passing clots.

Hey Ouchy,
for me, there is definitely a correllation between clots and cramping. altho it hurts most of the time while i have my period, i get sharper stabbing pains with the clots.
Now I am 10 weeks into my first round of depo and altho I am not having a regular period, i have a lot of break thru bleeding, which is mostly clots.
i am relieved to hear i am not the only one!
thanks

Ouchy , i have always related the clots to the cramping pains - i usually end up in a hot bath to relieve the cramping and the clots float in the water - not attractive stuff huh!!
Am i on my own here?? :-o

The way my period works is this:
1st day: Major blood loss and cramping as well as dizziness and small black outs when I stand up.
2nd day: More blood and cramps as above. This is usually about the time my stomach is the worst. I always have pain when I use the restroom but by the second day of my cycle it's extremely bad.
3rd day: I will start to spot and feel and intense pressure in my pelvis like something is stuck. I won't bleed a whole lot but I start to get a sensation that I have to bear down and push something out. It is on these days that I pass the most clots. Instead of an intense cramping I get increased pressure through out my entire pelvis.
4th day: Either cramping or clots
Continues like this for 7 to 10 days with the bleeding leveling off only two days before it ends.
So I never cramp with clots. I may have some low level cramps but nothing as bad as when I'm bleeding heavy. I always feel like I'm giving birth because I feel the need to push all day more than usual.

I have a hard time accepting retrograde menustration as the primary cause...they are all just theories and there are too many with too little information to pinpoint it... my instinct goes to diet, environment, genetics, someting deeper, but maybe that just works for me and my healing process

^ I agree. And now the misplaced tissues during cell division seems to make a lot of sense to me, too. Who knows. Hopefully someone will figure out what causes all this mess someday!!!
(I posted my little blurb about the retrograde causing it back before I read a lot about endo.)
But anyway, back to blood clots...

I used to have lot of blood clots, and quite big as well. I also considered on some cases them as maybe miscarried, because of its size! who knows!... Since I am getting acupuncture the blood clots have been minimized on the last 3 months and I asked one of the assistant at the clinic and she said that this is better ... I asked her since I though that blood clots were endo coming out (like a kind of body self cleaning process) but it seems that I was wrong... I also noticed a relation between pain and blood clots. When the pain was at its peak a moments later I got significant blood clots. Blood clots on my case were worst on 2nd and 3 rd. day. Even though my blood clots are less, my pain still quite bad anyway. So kind of hard to measure!

WhenI started my chinese herbs with acupuncture, I got my period early (I am on the pill so this is unusual) and it was very clotty, very pink, and not just clots but long strands. It felt very healing though, stuff that wanted to leave the body. And yes, I can have a major major cramp and then pass a blood clot soon after, this is what my period was like wehn I was younger and not on the pill.

I didn't have a single blood clot with my last period. I started a diet that seems to be helping w/ my endo as well as another problem. I had thicker blood at times, but it would just ooze out instead of clotting. My whole period this time was bright red blood and completely pain-free. I'm still in shock that there were no blood clots, as when I have blood clots is when I find I have the horrible cramps. No blood clot babies this time!

Since I just finished dealing with some clots I thought I'd join in! I have to say that I can tell when I am going to pass a big clot. Its almost like I get contractions (not that I know what they really feel like). When I have cramping like that I have to go to the bathroom and sit on the toilet and wait for it to pass. I've noticed though in the past few periods I've had that the clotting is also accompanied by a clear mucus looking stuff mixed with blood. Thats something new to me.
If you know anything about that please enlighten me! I've not been able to come up with any answers per my own investigating skills!

Hi, angelas. As you'll find by reading through this thread, a lot of us feel contraction-like pain when we get blood clots. I have no idea about the clear mucus, though.
LOL. You could take a sample to the doctor!!! HEHE. Just kidding.
Keep us posted if you figure anything out!

Any of those stringy fleshy pieces that come out are the clots.

Guess what!!! I've recently been traveling a lot and had a lot of time to read several fertility books.... Apparently, blood clots are usually caused by problems with ovulation!!!!!!!!!!! Who woulda' guessed?!? Just goes to show that most of us probably do have other problems/syndromes in addition to endo. Hohum. Sigh.
