I was reading a tread that erzulie posted about other illnesses women who have endo may be prone and cancer was one of them.
So my question is if any on knows if cervical cancer and endo can be directly linked. I will start off with a little background history.
Here goes. About 4 or 5 years ago during a routine pap test my doctor found a abnormality. Her office called me and said that some abnormal cells were found during my pap and they want to send me of a colposcopy. They also told me not to worry. At the time I was like YA RIGHT it could be cancer so I was freaking out.
So my doctor sent me to an OB/GYN who would perform the colposcopy. For those who don't know what a colposcopy I'll fill you in. The doctor sprays your cervix with vinegar which makes any abnormal cells turn white and the doctor looks at your cervix with a magnifying camera and if the doctor sees any abnormal cells he take a small clipping (ouch) It felt like a sharp cramp for only a moment and then it was gone. The clipping get sent to a pathologist who checks to see the amount of abnormal cells are present.
I was told that I had enough abnormal cells to require treatment. If I left it, It could progress into cervical cancer. So of course I said yes to have the treatment.
The OB/GYN then performed a leep treatment which is where they use electricity to burn off the abnormal cells. The first thing they was to get me positioned in the stirrups correctly and then put a patch on my thigh which was attached to a machine. It was to keep me grounded so I wouldn't get electrocuted during the procedure (YIKES !!) The next step they introduce the speculem which is larger then the one normally used during a pap (it was a little uncomfortable). Then then use a needle full of freezing on you cervix to numb it (ouch big time) and a side affect of the numbing agent is an increase in your heart rate. Ya my heart was pounding like crazy and it felt like it was the size of a basketball. I managed to keep myself calm. Then It was over all the abnormal cells have been burned away my heart rate went back to normal and I felt o.k, But little did I know that I was in for some more fun!
They burned my cervix and the burned tissue has to go somewhere right. A few days later I was finishing going pee (sorry folks this part is a little gross but hey were all adults right!) and was wiping myself when I felt something come out . Well being curious I looked and there on the toilet paper was a piece of my burned cervix! (Ya it was nasty) Then I was nearly overwhelmed by a burnt meat smell (OMG!!! ) I have a very strong stomach and it takes a lot to gross me out but let me tell you that almost did me in. It was just a normal part of the procedure. On top of all that I couldn't have sex for 3 months after the procedure. That really sucked, my then fiance now husband was quite bummed out as well .
I haven't had any abnormal cells since then and on Tuesday I have to go for another colposcopy and hopefully it stays that way.
I am convinced that my body hates me! I have been a medical train wreak since I can remember!
So back to my question does anyone know it endo and cervical cancer are linked. Also any one who has a similar experience feel free to share you story.
Thanks.
