Hi ladies, I finally have the long awaited results of the meeting I had with my specialist yesterday. I have to say though that I'm not too happy with what happened, and I really have a lot to get off my chest. I went in there with what was advised to have by many - a list of all the symptoms I've been experiencing. Right away my Doctor told me that we need to start the Lupron treatment. I was appalled!! I did the exact same treatment a few years ago with Depo Provera, and I absolutely REFUSE to put myself through that kind of crazy anguish again!! He says its the only option since I refuse to have a hysterectomy!!! It's been 4 years since my last lap and I knew the pain I've been having was nothing new, but at the same time there are certain symptoms that are. I told him I want the lap done since I feel more comfortable knowing rather than assuming the pain is caused by endo. The reason I had to argue that point (you would think an endo specialist wouldn't argue a point like that), I told him of the back pain and leg pain I have (which I've mentioned in detail) and he says 'oh thats not me, that sounds like disc disease or something) OH REALLY??? and yet he just wanted to start treatment? who the hell appointed a MAN to be an endo specialist anyway!?? So after some more arguing he says 'ok well lets do an ultrasound to make sure the uterus and ovary are normal'. SURE ENOUGH!!!! There is a chocolate cyst the size of an apple on my right ovary. The damn thing is hemmoraging!!! I asked him if it was caused by endometriosis and he says 'maybe'. MAYBE? The worst part is that if I wait for him to do the surgery it will be another 5 months.... so I have to wait and get into see a collegue of his (I find out in another 2 weeks when that appointment is) and hopefully she can get me in sooner. So now I sit and wait, knowing the risks of it rupturing, but at the same time, knowing how much more painful it will be as my period continues to come and go.... I am so down in the dumps right now. I hate this

I guess it is just so upsetting to continuously feel rediculous for what you feel inside. I feel like I always have to convince people that the pain is real, and that the fact of something being really wrong is real. I have been holding on to hope for 8 years that I'll still be able to have children, but if doctors aren't taking me seriously than how can I ever be healthy enough to even concieve???
Thanks for responding to me though... its actually nice to know someone out there doesn't think I'm nuts.

Man. Probably a good thing you are seeing another doctor. I would NOT want anyone with whom I had to argue the benefits of a lap actually performing a lap on me at all! Keep us posted on the other doc. Good luck with everything!

Angela,
I just live in Mississauga so just an 1 1/2 away from you. I heard that there is an endo specialist in london is that the one you go to? I go to the one in toronto that works out of the womens hopsital Dr Kay Lie. He is good but he is all about the macrobiotic diet and this chinese ancient thingy rather than just doing a damn lap.
I am curious to know who you are seeing, bceause endo specialist in canada are very hard to come by

Hi! There are 3 really good specialists that I have seen in London. I think there are a total of 4 that can actually perform the lap and 2 of them specialize in doing the lazer during the lap. Their names are: Dr. Kirby, Dr. Vilos and Dr. Power. I have had laps done by Kriby and Vilose. Dr. Vilos is a spokesperson for endometriosis nationally. If you type his name in to a google search you will see all kinds of links come up about him. He is a pretty hard guy to get in to see. I attended some of his seminars on endo prior to his performing the surgery. You would have to get a referral from your current doc to get in to see any of the doctors I've mentioned.
That said, it doesn't sound like your doctor is very experienced by way of the lap. I understand that some doctors like to promote certain types of healing, but they also have to be willing to listen to what the patient is comfortable with. It doesn't sound like he listens to you. Is there a resident or another doctor working with/under him? You could even ask them to send the referral for you so you don't have to ask him directly. (to aviod further questions as to why you don't feel comfortable with his recommendations). If you have to talk to him, I would tell him you need a second opinion, and that you would just feel better exploring any options available to you.
Is it difficult for you to get in to see Dr. Lie?

I just wanted to let everyone know that I have officially have my appointment with the specialist on March 12. That day I will find out more about when the surgery can happen. It looks like it will be April which is very fast considering that some of the surgeons here are into a 9 month waiting period. I am off work for a while too. I will post the details on that in my Sick leave thread. I am happy, but so exhausted. I am looking foward to the much needed rest.

Hi Angela,
I just wanted to say something in regards to your other post... If one of the main reasons your doctor doesn't want to do the lap is because you are young, that is crap! I am considered young too only being 28, but still I'm going on lap number 4. Some may debate about the damage done by endo as opposed to the damage done by surgery, but I am a firm believer that leaving it alone is far worse than treating it - especially since you've never had the lap done. All the more reason to have a second opinion. Keep me posted on what you end up finding out from him though... regardless, it sounds like you need the lap done.

I hope to hear sooner than later when I can have the surgery done... mind you with the condition I am in with the cyst and all I may need to have the laparotomy rather than the laparscopy. Are there any threads on the laparotomy surgery?

He's at University. I actually read a few things about Dr.Vilos and I'm starting to hope in a way that I see him instead. I found his name on the Ontario College of Physicians website. He specializes in Endo, Repro, and Infertility as well.

Dr. Vilos was the one who did my last lap. He is fantastic. The only thing with that is that there is about a 9 month wait to get in to see him.. to get a lap is even longer.
You'll have to keep me posted on who you end up seeing!! I hope you don't have a long wait either.... I was able to get on to one of the shortest wait lists and even that is killing me!
Good luck and let me know!
