Erzulie,
I have been following your posts waiting to hear how beau was doing and I am so sorry for your loss.
I had mentioned before my cat is 16 and goober is to me, like beau is to you, my best friend, I believe that she will always be there in spirit. I believe that when the day comes that goober passes I will always talk to her spirit because I believe that she will always be by my side.
I just wanted you to know that I am thinking of you and I will say my prayers for *hugs*

Thanks Hillary and everyone. Sometimes I wonder if Beau is still following me around. Sometimes I wish there were a real "ghost whisperer" so I could find out! I always called Beau my familiar spirit and I really think he was...maybe a familiar spirit never leaves you.

I don't know if I should post this here; let me know, erzulie, if you want me to move this post to my own thread.
My mom just called. She took my little pekingese to a doggie dental specialist in the city. The doctor said that she has cancer in her mouth and all of the tumors and growths that we have had cut off of her little body over the years (big red cherry looking things) have all been cancerous. Poor little doggie has been dying for years. She has an appointment at 4:30 to be put to sleep.
Poor little doggie. I remember how she used to cuddle up with me and keep my tummy warm when I had cramps. I remember all of the good times we had like when she wanted a bite of my ice cream, so I gave her the last bite of ice cream on the spoon. She decided not to lick it off but rather to kidnap the spoon and not give it back for anything. I remember how when we first got her, we realized she had a sweet-tooth and would eat hard peppermint candies! One time she hid under my bed and we couldn't coax her out for anything, so we took a handful of Sonic peppermints and made a trail leading out from my bed and down the stairs; within minutes, she was downstairs, and her little cheeks were puffed with a stash of peppermints!!!
My mom said that she'll be with her during the injection and will bury her in a little wooden box in the yard with all of the other beloved pets we have buried throughout the years.
Sigh......

Poor little doggie I'm sorry to hear that this is happening. How old is she?

We got her in July of '99. We got her from the humane society, so we don't really know exactly for sure how old she was. Apparently, from what the specialist said, she was sick even when we got her--but the cancer had not spread to her bloodstream back then. I saw the pictures of the cancer in her little mouth. Scary. The doctor was a dental vet specialist. My mom said he had more equipment and technology in his office than any human doctor she has ever seen! The doggie and kitty dentist works on show dogs and cats that cost up to 50K, and he even does dental implants on cats and dogs. He told my mom that animals suffer all of the same problems we do, pretty much. Apparently, the cancer that killed my little doggie is common in animals whose owners don't brush their pets teeth daily. I didn't know you have to do that! Anyway, word to owners, you have to brush your pets' teeth daily, or they can get cavities, rotten teeth, bone loss, and cancer as a result. Poor doggie. My brother made her a little coffin, and my mom lined it with material. Poor little doggie. Suffering all those years!

Very sorry you lost you pet. That is hard..they are like children.
I brush my girls teeth everyday. Everyone always made fun of me so it is good to know that oral care is a good habit.

It's very sad that all the waiting and stuff ends in death. Sorry for your losses erzulie and ouchy. I had a dog who had been like my guardian from when I was a little toddler, he was so gentle playing with me as a baby. He was getting a bit of what we thought was middle aged chub, but they did some tests and asked for the dog to be brought back a week later. We were really optimistic, and he was really happy on his new diet of fresh cooked food. He was so playful the night before, like we'd never seen him in years a big huge puppy clumping and frolicking around and rolling over for a tickle. The next afternoon I came home from school and saw in our back garden that his food and water bowls were washed out and on top of his kennel. I just stood in the street and cried until my mum came out and took me inside. There's nothing quite like the heartbreak of losing a pet... xx

Its true when they say that a pet is truly a part of the family... just like a human being. I had a love bird named Mickey that I had had since I was 6. He lived for 12 years that parrot. But the morning he died, my sister came and got me out of bed to tell me.. he was just sitting in the bottem of his cage.. not as though he fell though, as though he knew he had to rest there... it makes me choke up every time I think of it. I agree that that heartbreak has nothing comparible..
