Hi Erzulie,
Wow your cats sounds like mine so much, If I knew how to upload that picture on the side I would show you how similar they are. As for the 4am meowing, What I have done in the past is a give my cat Goober, a cold rinse and she doesn't like that at all and she doesn't do it for about another year. Sounds mean but fixes the problem! lol She is defiatly very fussy, she will only eat fish & fish treats, she really doesn't let me get away with anything! But she is my girl!

Here we go again...my cat recently got a small injury on his tail. I'm not positive how he got it, although I think he gave it to himself for biting at his tail so much (which the vet probably thought was due to an allergy, but we don't know for sure..further investigation will be required). Anyway I thought it would heal on its own, but he kept biting the injury and making it bleed again, so it's gotten a lot worse and looks like it may be starting to get infected. I have a vet appointment for next Wednesday to get it looked at, but since it was getting so much worse I decided to get him in sooner. Well, here was the best they could do for me...my mom is going to drop him off tomorrow morning (I have to go to work early and won't have time to do it, which is stressing me) and they are going to "work him in." Because he goes ballistic at the vet they will have to sedate him just to get a good look at his tail, and his regular vet who knows how to deal with him (Beau is a very special case...every vet he's seen has said they haven't seen another like him) won't be there, so he will be seeing someone I've never even met (and who hasn't met Beau and will likely think he can't be as bad as everyone says). To top it off, my mom has to go to work after dropping him off so no one will be there with him. It'll just be Beau and some clueless stranger, and Beau is 15 which is a bit old to be sedated anyway, and I don't even know what they'll do to him! It scares me to death, but the only other option is to wait until Monday, and with his wound getting worse (it's been bleeding nonstop for a few days), I don't feel that's a good option either. So I have to say, I'm pretty freaked out!

Oh, erzulie, I'm sorry! Poor Beau! I hope the new vet can manage to figure out what is wrong with him. I hope the vet will have good "table-side" manner as well. Good luck w/ everything. Keep us posted.

Beau is home from the vet, he survived (and so did the vet). He had an absess on his tail so the vet drained it and gave him an antibiotic shot. He is now stuck wearing one of those terrible collars until it heals, and he ahs to go back tomorrow morning for another anitibiotic shot. I'm not sure how many more he will have to have, but the vet said if it doesn't heal he could die from the infection. She also took some blood and urine samples because he lost over a pound. We're still not sure what caused the injury on his tail to begin with. The vet said it was clearly a bite wound and thought he must have been in a fight, but I know he wasn't in a fight and I think he did it to himself because he's been biting at the base of his tail for months. It sure would be nice to figure out why he was doing that so I can keep him from doing it again!

Things just keep getting worse Beau's absess is healing nicely, and the urinary tract infection they also found is clearing up. Unfortunately, today he had a strange episode where he was gasping for air for a few minutes. I took him to the vet and they discovered he has fluid around his lungs. The vet drew off a bunch of the fluid and will send it away in the morning to be analyzed. By tomorrow afternoon I may know what's wrong. It doesn't look good though I'm really afraid he may not be around for much longer.

Oh no! I had a kitty for a while. It really is quite troubling when they have medical problems because they can be difficult to treat. I'll keep Beau in my thoughts.

I haven't really felt like updating, but Beau had to be put down Wednesday morning. His breathing was getting a lot worse again and he was clearly in misery. The fluid samples showed that he had fluid from his digestive track in his chest, which meant he had a leak in his digestive system that had to be caused by a mass, which at his age would probably be malignant. There was really nothing they could do, they could have attempted open-chest surgery but the odds of it working were very slim and I didn't want to put him through that for nothing. I had the vet put him to sleep so he wouldn't keep suffering. It was very hard but I knew it was the right thing. I'm having a very hard time now because Beau was my constant companion and it seems everything I need to do is somehting Beau used to do with me or watch me do. He used to wake me up every morning, watch me eat every meal, follow me around, get in the middle of whatever I was doing, greet me when I got home, and sleep on my bed. It's so hard to just suddenly not have that.

Sorry, erzulie. I'm so sorry. It's understandably a rough time for you right now. Have you thought about getting a Beau II? Not to replace him, of course, but you'd be a great mommy for another deserving pet who needs a lot of love. It would probably lessen the grief you are feeling, too. Best wishes. ~Ouchy

Of course I will get a new kitten sometime, but not yet. If I got one right now I would be unable to form a bond with it because I would be mad at it for not being Beau! I need time to be sad first. I'm not sure when I'll be ready for a new kitten but I'll know when I'm ready. It doesn't do to rush things.

I'm so sorry, that's awful news. You're right though, don't feel like you need to rush anything. Things will heal with time.

I didn't mean go out right now and buy a kitten--that would kinda' be wrong! Just in time, it might lighten your spirits.
