hi,
i just signed up and account is pending approval my username will be cass though. Its currently 3 am and i am awake with sever period pain and through some searching found this site. I have expereinced severe pain for about 6 years that has been dismissed as gastointestinal problems. I have beee in and out of the emergency room at the hospital with severe pain where they have given me morphiene to help with the pain. I have been told i have ulcers, reflux, IBS,inflamatory bowel disease... the list goes on. As the pain started to get worse i demanded my doctor refer me to a gynae. i went to see him about 3 weeks ago. This was the best decision i had made as he scheduled me in for a lap and found severe endometriosis which has been the cause of my pain for so many years. Nothing was removed via the laparoscopy and i have to go back in a few weeks for a check up and discuss the options available. my bowel seems to be very affected with large endometriomas as are other areas. the suggestions he made were to fall pregnant (which is not something i want to do), stop my periods completely or surgery.
im still looking into a lot of information on this issue and want to be aware of most things relating to it and this site so far has been great!

Pregnancy is only a cure for the time you are pregnant. Then the pain comes right back and you would be trying to care for a newborn. I had my son before finding out I had endo so I was exhausted trying to care for him and didn't know what was going on. I found out later I had endo and that was why I felt so terrible.A hysterectomy will stop any further endo growth, but you then have early menopause. I took lupron and now bcps and I have stage 3 endo. It's really a personal decision. I was just not ready to go through the change at my now age, so I'm trying to hold it off as long as possible.

hi thanks for your reply. Im 24 and have been with my partner for only 18 months so you could imagine our reaction(more importantly his) when the Dr mentioned pregnancy as a temporary relief for pain! i was furious with this suggestion though! my 6 week post lap check up is scheduled for 3 weeks time where we will discuss where we go to from here. I am willing to do anything (within reason!) i dont even think i can endure another bout of period pain prior to my next check up! he mentioned referring me to the endo clinic in melbourne though. he didnt say what stage i was at but said i had severe endo and it was too extensive to remove via lap.

Hi, YDI. Welcome to the forum! So sorry your doc. didn't remove any endo during your surgery. Did he give you a reason why he didn't?

my doc told me i needed to go see an endo specialist as it was too severe and wide spread. I wasnt scheduled to see him until November 14 (6 wk check up) but called today and said i cant endure anymore period pain like i have today and therefore have an appt. with him on Thursday. He is apparently going to rfeer me to the endometriosis clinic here in melbourne, where hopefully they will finally remove it. as mentioned above he said the options going forward would be to stop my periods all together or have open surgery. (i was willing to cut it out myself today!!) im trying to et more info before i meet with him but as far as i know there is a waiting list for the next clinic so it could be a while before anything actually happensm which is so frustrating as unlike most girls who count the days until their next period i count the days so i can prepare myself for the pain.

Wow. Well, juding from what I have read on here, surgery seems to be a more helpful option than just hormonal treatments to stop your period, as the symptoms and implants ALWAYS return when hormonal treatment is stopped. Having a surgery can at least hopefully free-up your organs that are probably tied together. Good luck with whatever you decide. Keep us posted!

Hi Ydi! I hope the dr's get everything figured out quick for you! I know it's hard to get through the pain when it seems like everyone else isn't worried about it at all. It sounds like the surgery will help you a lot, and possibly with some treatment afterwards you could be symptom free for awhile afterwards. Good luck to you!

well i just got home my gynae and we discussed our options moving forward as this was my first post op appt with him since my lap. He told me that i have severe endo stage 4 and it needs to be treated by a sepcialist asap and doesnt want to prempt but may need a bowel resection. i am trying to get an appt with a specialist at an endo clinic to discuss surgery options but until then i will be stopping my periods to prevent further pain and symptoms till the appt. I was crying today as i am only 24 and have been experiencing so much pain for about 6 years and until now no onw had even mentioned this as a problem and i was begining to think that ppl were thinking i was nuts!! thanks guys!!

Sorry you are in so much pain. My advise as my personal experience DO your own research and be informed before making any decision about option that doctors may offer to you. Not everything works for everyone, you can also check a natural approach as well, here in the forum there are a lot of people that are following this path, you can check the Alternative Treatment Area.
