I'm Heather, 38.5, have been ttc #1 since Jan '04. DH has two children.
I went for a pre-ttc appt in Aug '03. The OB/Gyn just took a quick peek and said go ahead and BD from days 12-14 and not to worry about my age (35) as his wife got pg @ 38. I didn't know then that was NOT a good pre-ttc checkup
In Sept '04 I went to my new OB/Gyn (moved) and he noticed right away that my cervix bled when touched and that I had a discharge. He did a wetslide and barely found a sperm-bullying infection. He said it had been around a very long time. When I look back, I had had plenty of discharge but was too uneducated about my body to know it was BAD discharge - duh. So, I think I had that infection from '96 - '04 Luckily it was easily eradicated and I was supposedly fine, although I wonder if ANY kind of infection for THAT long could cause problems, even though this one is called a "nuisance infection".
March '05 - still not pg. I had started learning about myself and ttc since October and had been charting, and learned not everyone ovulates on the same day (duh to the first doctor).
Meanwhile seeing GP re chronic sinus pain and congestion, sore throat since bad flu in '03 (had been really sick that yr - mainly from job stress I think). Tried two antibiotics, had hives and bad chest pains for 3 months. UTI antibiotics at same time. Thought antibiotics caused hives...
March '05 - New OB/Gyn runs tests. Recurrent yeast infections I suppose from all the antibiotics. Positive for ureaplasma - Doxycycline. Says no, DH doesn't need it, and no, retests give false positives. All hormone tests good, FSH good (low), TSH 2.83 (knew nothing about thyroids, now know this might be a bit high).
HSG doesn't go well - radiologist has a hard time, says I have a severely tilted uterus. Balloon @ end of probe pops before they know about left tube, inconclusive. Jokes that I can get pg with one tube. Ha ha funny.
Sept '05 RE appt. Saline ultrasound "good", several ripe follies prior to O. TSH 4.99, runs addtl tests 1.5 wks later. TSH 6.34, all levels high including TgAB (TPOab OK). Synthroid 100mcg for 2 wks, go hyper. 75mcg for 2 wks, still hyper. 50mcg for 2 wks, hyper. Off 2 wks, hyper. Off another 2 wks, up to 8.34 TSH and feel HORRIBLE, gain ten pounds
Back on 50mcg for 2 wks, TSH 3.15 - says I'm OK, wants to go to IUI. I know I'm not right yet, feel terrible, plus researched thyroid and s/b 1-2 TSH. Decide to go to regular endo 04/06 found on AACE website - they recommend lower range as normal. Tell endo I want to get to 1-2 TSH, feel terrible. Says can get me to 1.5 (O-K). TSH comes back @ 3.84, worse than before, tells me I'm normal, stay on 50mcg. WTH?!??!? Call back and ask what am I supposed to do - keep feeling horrible?!? Beg for .075mg - OK'd for 5 wks. TSH 1.57. Still don't feel great - need to tweak my meds or try another one, or is it something else? Had 9 colds from Dec - April. ACTH test also done, OK, but have tons of adrenal fatigue symptoms.
Have been on 75mcg for a few months, overall feel much better than winter and last year, but still get weeklong bouts of nausea, fatigue, etc. Is my body still repairing itself or do I need to tweak meds or Going to old GP 7/15/06.
Saw new RE 7/10/06 - the one I originally wanted to go to, but DH said it was a bad area. This one deals with pathogens, which I am concerned about b/c of my immune system crappiness and past infections, ureaplasma. Does ultrasound at first appt! Weird, but glad b/c he saw a black area that he said is fluid, which is not seen til after ovulation. May indicate endo. He moves wand around and I have a lot of pain when he's poking around, I think he's poking on the left side, the questionable side. Recommends endo biopsy and ovarian reserve test. I highly suspect endo/adhesions b/c of monthly pain (really bad when AF comes) and past history, HSG problem...it would all make sense. Hope for a Lap and hope it's not too bad and I can get pg soon.
