By the way, when you used to get cystitis did you get flare ups after eating/drinking particular things? Nicola, was this question directed to me? If so, I actually don't and have never had cystitis--either bladder infections (honeymoon cystitis) or interstitial cystitis (not sure which one you are talking about). They thought I had interstitial cystitis before I had a cystoscopy to rule that out and to get on w/ my endo diagnosis. Endometriosis can often time cause symptoms similar to interstitial cystitis. I had bladder infections ruled out by having a UA (urinary analysis). Oh. by the way, if you are going to try that boric acid/yeast arrest treatment, be wary...if you have any vaginal irritation, it may make it burn unbelievably! I was all dried out from the birth control pills (vaginal atrophy), and the yeast arrest caused the worst burning I have ever felt! Had I not had lidocaine numbing jelly on hand, I would have wound up in urgent care. One of my friends and her daughter both used Yeast Arrest without any problem. ...Just be prepared for possiblity of having your crotch on fire!!!! On an easier note, you can also insert a capsule of the refrigerated, live acidophilus into the vagina once at bedtime and once in the morning (My gyencologist said this is okay, too.). This helps to replenish the vaginal bacteria necessary for keeping pH in check. You can also soak in vinegar baths, douche w/ vinegar (controversial), or douche w/ hydrogen peroxide (controversial). <--I say "controversial," because douching is often controversial, as it can wash out any good bacteria you have, change the pH, or drive bacteria higher into the reproductive tract. If you have a vaginal yeast problem, that means usually that the pH of the vagina is too basic and needs to be more acidic (vinegar douche might help here). Yeast can't survive in healthy vaginal pH, I think between something like 3.5 and 4.5...but don't quote me on those numbers. I bought some litmus paper to test my own pH so I could try to get my pH back in the right spot. The pH scale is also non-linear, so even having one increment off is a BIG difference in acidity! There is also something called Replens, which can buffer vaginal pH for up to 10 days, but it really irritated me. I guess I have a lot of chemical allergies. Anyway, this is really rambling, but I have a headache. Hope you have a good mid-week!

I asked my gynecologist about using the boric acid in a compound called "Yeast Arrest," and my gynecologist said that it is still used by gynecologists when traditional medicines aren't working! Here is a link where I bought my Yeast Arrest from. www.naturalnutritionals.com/v01005.html DO NOT SWALLOW YEAST ARREST. IT IS A VAGINAL SUPPOSITORY!!!
