Hi everyoneIm new to this site but find it very interesting. Im from the uk and was only diagnosed in January with endo. Its caused me so many problems, just glad my partner is so understanding. I do have a question (if anyone can help as i dont know what to do): Since i had a laporoscopy in January my pain has been twice as bad, i have been told too take my contraseptive pill back to back, without having a monthly period. However, this does not seem to work, i have either had discharge or bleeding, i only have 2 - 3 days per month where i dont have some sort of problem. the pains is so much worse than before i had my surgery and tend to be on my right side. Ive tried to make an appointment with my consultant but he cant fit me in for another month. I really dont know what to do. Any sugestions or advise??

In my experience, almost everyone with endometriosis who takes birth control pills experiences breakthrough bleeding and other problems. It does work for some people--and most will tell you that it takes some experimenting to find the right pill--but for many of us, the right pill isn't out there. That's why I'm refusing to take birth control pills, although my doctor wanted me to (she also wanted me to take Lupron, which I refused flat out). They aren't all that helpful anyway, they don't cure the problem, it's just a band-aid. They are supposed to help a bit by thinning the lining of your uterus (and therefore thinning the endometrial tissue that grows outside of your uterus). There are other more natural remedies you can try that may work a lot better. I've been taking wild yam recently, and I think it's been helping me. I'm only on my second month with it so I don't know for sure, but my last period was way better than normal. I am sure if she gets a chance that ouchy will sing the praises of Black Cohosh for you. If you go in the Alternative Treatment section, you can find discussions about both of these and other things. p.s. WELCOME! I'm glad you found us

Hi! Welcome to the forum. I agree w/ Erzulie on this issue as well. Manyyyyyyyyyy women with endo have problems w/ b.c. pills! I have been on 10 different ones, including the patch...and I had breakthrough bleeding with all types, with some breakthrough bleeding lasting a month and a half! Finally, after 5 years of many different types of continuous birthcontrol, I gave up! And truthfully, I feel sooo much better! The synthetic hormones basically put me into a fake menopause.
I'm all for natural treatments now, and yes, Erzulie is right about my praising the herb Black Cohosh. Had I known I could take it for endo pain, I never would have gone on birth control pills to begin with!
My advice is if you are in to natural remedies, give the wild yam, black cohosh, or a number of outher touted remedies a try!
Best wishes and welcome to the forum! ~ouchy
