I've been on different anti-anxiety meds throughout the last ten years. When my endo is at its worst, I am prone to panic attacks, and on a daily basis, I find that I am crabby and cranky and snap at the slightest thing, which is totally unfair to my husband and kids. So, my current doc put me on Lexapro, but it took away what little sex drive I had. Now, he's got me on Cymbalta, and it really seems to work well. (Apparently the smallest doses of anti-depressants work to help anxiety issues, go figure.) Anyways, because my moods have been tied in with my endo, I am hopeful that I will be able to wean off the meds post-hysterectomy. My doctor is very supportive, although he's asked me to give it several weeks and not try to do everything at once. Has anyone here had any experience/luck with not having the depression/anxiety post-hysterectomy?

Hi christy, I think as with all issues of mental health, your attitude to it will help a lot. My mum became quite reclusive after her hyst but I think that tied in with major mental health problems she has. You have the intention and despite having a rough time, a positive outlook on it all. Maybe as you are coming off them you can get help, like relaxation techniques to deal with any problems you may have as you are coming off them. I agree with your doc though, it seems that even though its wanted, the hyst can take a massive toll on you, so try to let that all settle first cos recovery is slow xx
