What are your husbands doing to improve their fertility? Are they cutting back on caffeine, alcohol etc? Are there any guidelines for when they can/can't drink and how much? Should they avoid headache tablets etc around fertile times? What about antidepressants? My husband is taking Citalopram 20mg. Could this present a problem? Thanks!

Hiya, My husband doesn't drink anything with caffeine in, so thankfully cutting that out wasn't at issue. He does like a tipple though and we've read conflicting advice about how much it matters. He now doesn't drink anything in the week leading up to when we'll be ttc and obviously over that period. The rest of the month he's tried to cut down a bit, but would still have a fair few drinks at weekends, etc. The advice about the week before I read in Zita West's book. Our dr didn't seem to even think a few drinks was an issue for me (although I don't know if I agree with that) and definitely not for men, as long as it wasn't binge drinking. I don't know about headache tablets, etc. Funnily enough my husband was also on anti-depressants (fluxoetine) and we couldn't find anything about them effecting fertility. The only possible side-effect related to that was decreased sex drive, but thankfully that hasn't been a problem (that's all we'd have needed!!!! ). He has just now stopped taking these tablets, but that's not to do with ttc. In general we'd both been trying to eat a bit more heathily and drink plenty of water, I guess that would be important for sperm production in the same way it's important for cm production. Hope this is helpful!!

I put my husband on the same diet I was on. It apparently made his little swimmers live longer. LOL.

Actually, I'm guessing it did. I'd been "exposed" several times during the same # of days before ovulation (and even less) during several cycles, and I didn't get preg. It probably boosted both of our fertilities. He never had an analysis, so I'm really just talking out my bum! LOL!

My reproductive endocrinologist told my husband not to take hot baths. No saunas, hot tubs, baths, tight underwear...
He's had two sperm studies done, and luckily both showed that he is above-average as far as motility, sperm count, size, shape, etc.
