Well, I've been taking a diabetic medication, Glucophage (Metformin HCl) for insulin resistance, and in turn, regulate my cycles. While it has worked extremely nicely for three months now, after doing a bit of research on insulin resistance, I'm actually only treating the symptom (blood sugar problems) and not the actual causal factor itself, diet. Also, Metformin leaches B vitamins among other vitamins and minerals from the body--not a good thing, whatever condition a person has! To combat insulin resistance, my husband and I are now embarking on the Insulin Resistance Diet, which is similar in part to the South Beach Diet--basically, cutting out processed foods and balancing "good carbs (complex carbohydrates)" with plenty of protein. I'm excited about the diet, and I guess I've been doing a modified version of it for some time bc of endo and how my body reacts to certain foods, but this is more intense. Oh. for more info, research "Syndrome X" online. Wish us luck!

Today.
Breakfast: Omelette with sauteed onions and mushrooms, wilted spinach leaves, and a slice of turkey breast. Cooked in Extra-Virgin Olive Oil.
Snack: Apple wedges w/ peanut butter--only ingredient=crushed peanuts
Lunch: Fresh Greek salad--green leaf lettuce, tomatoes, Mediterranean cucumbers, red bell pepper, Feta cheese, squeezed lemon half and Cavenders Greek Seasoning for dressing.
Snack: Mediterranean cucumber slices, skin on.
Supper: Shrimp Stir-fry--fresh raw shrimp, which I took the time to peel and devein (ugh!), broccoli florets, bamboo shoots, water chestnuts, and bok choi. I left the corn and carrots out bc of the carbs (too little protein in this meal). Stir-fried in extra-virgin olive oil, garlic, and a tad bit of soy sauce. (Shrimp was sauteed first.)
Dessert: Plumb-Nectarine smoothie, sweetened just a tad w/ Stevia.

Holy cow!!!! I started my period yesterday, and I haven't had a single big cramp! Today, my second day, I can't even feel that I'm on my period!!!!! I guess this diet is great for endo, too! I only thought I've had a couple virtually pain-free periods before (with black cohosh, etc.). This is the easiest period I've had EVER!!!! I'm in shock! I know it wasn't anovulatory, as my test strips and temps. said I ovulated, and this is an even easier period than my anovulatory ones. HOLY COW!!! I know I'm rambling, but I can't believe it! I even went to the gym this morning! I know I am on this diet for insulin resistance, but gosh. It is the only thing I have done different this cycle! I'm only taking a multi-vitamin!

Hi, donnadee. Yup. I have PCOS, and my husband has all the signs of "Syndrome X"--basically what PCOS is, syndrome x. All-in-all, they're both just pre-diabetes, plain and simple. Men always lose weight faster, though! In the past week, my hubby lost 3 inches from his waist and 4 pounds. LOL. It's awesome that it helps w/ endo, too, though! It's nice to kill 2 birds w/ 1 stone!

The diet is AWESOME! I eat/snack all day long and still lose weight, same for my husband. The thing is, you HAVE to have healthy snacks on hand, which means TONS of prep work!
Here was my schedule today.... I got up this morning at 6:45, cooked breakfast, got ready for work, was at work all day (30min. lunch), came home, worked out for 45 min, cooked supper, dishes, made a smoothie, prepared lunches for tomorrow, including snacks for in the morning and snacks for in the afternoon. DISHES. Packed lunches. UGHGHGHGHGH! It's a LOT of work, but it's SO worth it! I feel really great, and I don't think I'll need melatonin to fall asleep anymore; I'm exhausted! It's already 10:20 at night. When we have kids, I'm definitely going to be a stay-at-home mom!!!
I did try a shortcut, though. I made a huge egg/omelette scramble that I think will be enough for both of us for the next 3 or 4 days. What I won't do for an extra 15 min. of sleep! LOL!

GOOD NEWS ABOUT THE I.R. DIET AND ENDO from one of my friends!!!!!
I just spoke w/ one of my friends who recently had a baby, who also has endo, and also has PCOS!!! She said that since she has been on the I.R. diet, she has not had a single period cramp! This has been for 2 years now! That is good news! I guess the I.R. diet is close enough to the endo diet that it works for cramps, too. Also, she said that she hasn't had any bowel problems or bloating. I can vouch that in the short time I have done the diet and the one period I had, I had NO bloating and NO cramps! Yayyyy! I'll keep you guys posted if the diet continues to work for pain, IBS, and bloating next cycle, too!

Geeeez. My husband is a bread addict!!!! I'm now getting the silent treatment bc I only let him have 1/3 of a bagel at breakfast! One bagel=5 slices of bread, so he still got more than 1 slice of bread! It's not like he went hungry! There were slices of tomato, cucumber, avocado, and even a soft boiled egg!!! Man. I didn't realize people could actually become addicted to bread! It was like fighting a smoker not to have a cigarette! I think I'm going to have to sleep with the bag of bagel slices under my pillow so he doesn't sneak them at night!!!

Apparently, the IR diet has worked for me!!! I had my first on-time ovulation (without insulin drugs) since I first started my period at 12 years old! Hip hip! The diet is GREAT! Now to see if my upcoming period will be pain-free like last time!
