hI.. Thought i start this thread so that it's easier for people who are undergoing or will be going through this procedure to share their experiences. so, anybody with experiences pls feel free to add. those who has started IVF i think should start a thread on it. This is my 2nd round of IUI. 1st one failed as my endometrium lining is thin. it can be caused by clomid. best is 10 and above. 1st round 100mg clomid, endometrium lining 7cm ( i think cm), follicle at 19cm. pregnyl shots 40 hours prior to IUI. 2nd round 50mg clomid, endometrium lining are very good ( forgot to ask the measurement, got 2 'overlap' eggs at 20cm and 23cm- Gyno said 'i hope you will get twins'. pregnyl shots last night at 9pm...painful... IUI tomorrow..pray for me..esp for twins (clomid can thin the endometrium lining so Doctors will give lesser not more)

Hi, Dena!!! Sounds exciting!!! I will keep my fingers crossed for you! I think the measurement is in mm. I've read that baby aspirin and B vitamin can help w/ the thickness of the lining, but I'm not sure. Good luck!!!

for those who doesn't know what is IUI
An IUI -- intrauterine insemination -- is performed by threading a very thin flexible catheter through the cervix and injecting washed sperm directly into the uterus. The whole process doesn't take very long — it usually only requires the insertion of a speculum and then the catheter, a process that maybe takes a couple of minutes (60-90 seconds to introduce the catheter, then sperm injection, and another 60 seconds or so to remove the catheter — going slowly helps reduce discomfort). Sometimes when the cervix is hard to reach a tenaculum is used to hold the cervix, which makes the process a bit more uncomfortable. A typical "Tomcat" catheter is shown below.
it is an easy and painless procedure..

This time my gynae didn't put me on clomid as ovulation is not a problem. she suspected it's my endometrium lining. everything is fine except that it's not implanted. anybody has a clue- may be have read something why it's so hard to be implanted? may be some food can help or just anything...
she 'll give me shots instead.will get the med today.will have a 8 days shots of it..and we'll see how it goes..will be going to US in 2 months time..yea...i was quite worry that it will happend when i travel but what the heck..if it happend i will surely rejoice in disneyworld!!!!

Hey, denna. Thanks for the wish! I've read that Clomid, which you were on, can thin the uterine lining, so maybe that has something to do with it? I have no idea! What are the shots for that you'll be taking? Oh. And as far as ovulation and travel, I ovulated the day I had a 19-hour international flight, and hadn't had sex for 4 days prior. I still somehow got pregnant, so don't worry about ovulation happening while you travel. The excitement/stress from the trip might delay ovulation, but if your hormones are already aligned, you'll most likely ovulate. If you are charting, it can still be detected probably. My friend I told you about who did IUI several times went to the doctor for her annual exam, and he told her that he thought she was ovulating. She went home and jumped her husband. Now she has a 5 month old! So, even though you've been doing IUI, I'd say dont' miss out on the chance to still try naturally! It can't hurt to try! Good luck, Denna!

----My background - stage IV endo - last lap October 2006 - ttc 4 years----
Hi All ¡V I thought I¡¦d write a bit about my IUI experience so that if others go through it they¡¦ll know a little of what to expect. IUI is defined as ¡¥placing the washed sperm cells directly into the uterus¡¦. Just a note ¡V this will very slightly from doctor to doctor (# of pelvic ultrasounds, prescriptions, date of IUI, etc¡K).
I told my doctor I was ready to go try IUI. I was told to call the doctor on the first day of my period (actual flow, not spotting) and then they made an appointment for day 3 so they could do a pelvic ultrasound. If others are like me, day 3 is a flow day so this can be a ¡¥not so clean feeling¡¦. Anyway, I went on day 3 for the pelvic ultrasound and they assured me all looked well (I¡¦m not sure what that means). They gave me a prescription for Letrosol (a pill) to promotion of ovulation that I had to take once daily from day 3-7 of my cycle.
I then went back on day 10 so they could do another pelvic ultrasound to see how my eggs were coming. They saw two and said they were coming along well.
I then had to go in on day 12 for another pelvic ultrasound, it was still too early (the eggs were too small). This time they found 2 eggs were progressing well and there was a third egg that was not progressing as well.
I went in on day 14 for another pelvic ultrasound and they said the eggs were getting larger (I¡¦m on a 31 day cycle not 28). Again, two eggs looked well and one was still small. I was given a prescription for Pregnyl (part liquid/part powder) for ovulation induction (to actually release the eggs). We were also told to have intercourse every night. Based on my egg size from day 14 I had to give myself the shot of Pregnyl on day 16 at midnight. I had to mix the liquid with the powder and then inject myself in the abdomen. It was my first shot I¡¦d ever given to myself so I was unaware of how tough the skin is ¡V I finally got it in on the 11th try. The first 10 attempts did hurt a bit but on the 11th try I just gabbed myself and it didn¡¦t hurt at all. When I had injected all of the liquid I had to rub the injection site to promote better absorption. After the injection the ovulation occurs about 36 hours later.
On the 18th day my husband and I headed to the lab so he could make a ¡¥deposit¡¦. We had to wait 2 hours (we had the best breakfast ever) for the sperm washing to be done. When it was done we had to show our ids and I had to put the vial in my bra so it was next to my skin so the sperm would be at body temperature. My doctor¡¦s office is in the same building so I walked up with my husband and now the sperm in my bra.
At the doctor¡¦s office I was brought into the exam room where I had to change into the lovely ¡¥paper gown¡¦ (still with the sperm vial still in my bra). Here are the details so if you are squeamish don¡¦t read this part. They showed me the small catheter that they use to inject the sperm ¡V it didn¡¦t look too bad. Then they inserted the speculum and took a look and said they thought the opening in my cervix was too small so they would have to use a cervix clamp to open it manually (they don¡¦t have to do this for everyone). They had me cough and they grabbed the cervix at the same time with the clamp. It was a bit painful but seeing as we have all gone through so much this pain with endometriosis wasn¡¦t too terrible (there was bleeding though). They then took the sperm from me and injected it. Then they tilted the table so my hips were a lot higher than my head and had me stay there for about 15-20 minutes and then I dressed and went home.
The doctor said I was not under restrictions but I laid in the backseat while my husband drove home and I took the day off so I laid on the couch and watched movies and sent good vibes to my eggs and the spermļ
4 days after the IUI in the evening I had period cramping (but not as bad as a period) and it lasted the 5th day after and then went away. Now I just have 5 days to wait to see if it worked.
Now what everyone wants to know ¡V the financial stuff. My insurance company will pay for half of the cost up to a lifetime maximum of $2000. Each time I went in for an ultrasound it was $500 (my doctor is expensive). I still haven¡¦t received the bill for the actual IUI but the sperm washing was $250 (I¡¦m still waiting to see what insurance will cover). The Letrosol was about $65 and the Pregnyl was about $60. My sister went through this as well and her IUI was $500 total each time ¡V my doctor is at Stanford so therefore it will always be more expensive.
I hope this will help others if they are contemplating an IUI.
Wish me luck¡KI hope it works on the first try!!!

I got my period last week so I called my doctor on Friday (day 1) and asked for an HSG to check my tubes. When I had my surgery a year ago they opened my tubes and I'm not sure how long they were closed before they opened them. I have a fear they have closed again. I go in tomorrow for the HSG. If all is clear I'll do another IUI next month. If not, I'll have to debate a lap or IVF.
