When was your last lap? And a family doctor isn't an endo specialist. I CAN recommend that you consult specialsts rather than family docs on the matter!
I personally find the endo diet too restrictive for myself. I did find great results with the insulin resistance diet, but I also have PCOS.

I am gonna have to do some research and see if there are any specialist in my area. I live in a very small counrty town where the nearest drive to any city is like 1:45. I have a dr appt in the morning to go back to a new gyn. They say he's the best in the area where I live. So we will see tomorrow.

Hi deedee,
I am so sorry that you are in so much pain. I feel for you and am in the same situation. I have been doubled over in pain for more than a week now and my regular doctor isn't helping much. My last specialist moved out of the state and I was lucky to find him.
I have finally been referred to another specialist as my reg. doc can do no more for me. Since 2004 I have been pregnant 3 times and am now done having children.
In the last 10 years I have taken every kind of birth control, hormone, and shots and nothing is working. I have had 2 laps and the only other options are pain meds (which no one will give me anything that works) or a hysto. I have pain everyday but at least 2 weeks out of the month I am in extreme pain.
I think it is important to listen to your instincts when it comes to treatment. Read about all of the options out there and listen to what your body is telling you. I hope you find something that will work for you.

Wondering if there is anyone out there who has recently had a Total Hysterectomy with ovary removal? I just discussed my options with my doc this morning. I know many of you don't agree with this. I'm just so exhausted and sick and tired of having a period. The fear of it has become debilitating. I'm on my second round of Lupron and even though it hasn't been easy, it's been the best thing ever. I had shot #3 today. I've been battling this disease since I can remember. Had my dx lap in 2005. I have found a great doctor/surgeon. Just would like hear some recent stories about this if there is anyone out there. Thanks

For all who had the surgery already, how long did it take to feel better? I am 27 w/ two children and I am having a hysterectomy the 31st of July. My son is 4 and my daughter is 4 months and I am afraid of how long it is going to take for me to be able to care fore them without a lot of help. I am having my surgery done abdominal due to previous c-sections (too much scar tissue to do it vaginal) so I know it will probably take a little longer to feel better.

Jenn, I just read "The Essential Guide To Hysterectomy" It has a ton of great information and at the end has snippets from women and their hubbys regarding specific issues. I'm so glad I read that book. It didn't change my mind but really clarified what I want done. It also has a bunch of history and isn't that bad to read. I thought it would put me to sleep, but there are some funny things in it too. I wish you luck and quick healing after your hysterectomy. I will be having mine done in November. Keep us posted on how you are doing.

It seems like the only way a hysterectomy works is if EVERYTHING is removed, uterus, both ovaries, tubes, and cervix. Anytime anything is left people seem to have problems.

I am having one ovary left if it is in good shape. I wanted to take it all, but do to my age we decided to do it this way so I won't go into menopause already. I hope it all works out good. Anything has to be better than what it is now!

I did a lot of reserach on this and leaving the ovary is very counter productive. The uterus is not what is causing the pain and the ovary is what is causing the growth. I'm still thinking its not the best choice for most of us with ENDO. BUT check out Hyster-sisters if you haven't already to make the best, most informed decision!!

Anything has to be better than what it is now! I couldn't agree more with that statement. I am scheduled for a total abdominal hysterectomy, removing uterus, cervix, tubes, ovaries and also having a bowel resection on Monday July 27th. I have also heard from a lot of women that the hysterectomy was the best thing they have done, but have also read some stories that the endo comes back just as bad as before. I really am out of options at this point. The endo has gone all the way through my large bowel and I have a large endo nodule inside my vagina behind my cervix. I have just finished 6 months of Lupron injections, which gave me some pain relief for the first 5 months, but now even though I do not have a period, am in quite a bit of pain all day and night. I know it is not a cure, but I hope to be one of those women who can say after that it was the best thing I ever did!

I wish it was a cure... wouldn't it be nice if we could just yank everything out that makes us female and be all better? I have been haunting the hyster-sister site for the pros and cons. I guess I'm still having a hard time making up my own mind. It sounds good sometimes and then I start freakin' about the sexual side affects and talk myself out of it. Lassy74 can you please keep us updated as to how you feel after everything? It might help more of us make a descion one way or another. I kind of wish I didn't care because then I could just make the apt. and get it done. *sigh*

I'm worried about the sexual side effects too. But our sex life right now is not so good . I am in so much pain during sex. I think it's so important in a relationship too. He's really understanding though, but I still feel bad saying no. If the hyster can take away the pain during sex, I think our sex life can only get better.

"If the hyster can take away the pain during sex, I think our sex life can only get better."
That's true! I wish you all the luck in this venture. I am seriously in the consideration stage of doing the same thing since I have yet another Endomertioma on my one remaining ovary, so I would love to hear how it goes. Also since I have had a Laparatomy (full belly inscion) just know that six weeks doesn't even come close to when you will feel better. That's the magic number that they give you but with kids and hubby you don't get as much rest as is usually needed recovering from surgery. FIND someone... mom, sister, really close friend to help you clean your house for that six weeks, once a week and for the first two weeks you'll need help to even get out of bed!! (trust me on this) GOOD LUCK!! BEST WISHES!!

I'm glad this thread has been revived.
I know that leaving ovaries isn't the best thing for those of us considering a hysterectomy with Endo. But, my decision to leave my ovaries is a personal decision of what I feel is right for me.
I didn't do well on Lupron with add-back this time and the depression I had was horrible. I'm hoping with excision of all endo my doc can find I will have time to feel better for a few years or longer. If in the future I need to remove my ovaries I will do that. But, if I remove them now I cannot put them back. Being conservative in my surgery hopefully will be enough surgery for a very long time.
I am planning routes to take if the pain returns. So many people I know have has such great success with their hysterectomies. One person got 10 years with a partial hysterectomy before she had problems with Endo and needed to remove everything else. So, I'm going to remain hopeful.
For those of you having a hysterectomy before November, please post up and let us know how you are doing. I will post up when I have mine too.
Oh, Jenn, I hope all goes well on Friday!!
