Just wanting to know if there is anything I should know before my Lap on Thurs???
Anything that helped or you wish you would of brought with you??? My Lap is at a hospital 40 mins away from home so I do not want to forget something.
I am scared...scared of what they might find and scared if they do not find anything. My hubby and I have already had the what if talks...you never know.
Just wanted some suggestions from all you veterans!!!

Hi Trish,
I found the information in this link very useful before my 2 laps:
www.pinelandpress.com/faq/itests.html#lap1 I was also nervous but it was fine, if you are nervous right before ask them for something to help you relax. I got that the first time and it really helped. Also the nurse who took me from the pre-op room to the theatre held my hand and it really, really helped!
When you wake up in recovery don't be afraid to call one of the nurses over if there's anything you need, more pain meds, etc. I felt fine after my first lap (diagnostic lap) - it was actually quite pleasant in recovery. I just felt tired, but nice tired where you can't keep your eyes open. Later on I was nauseous when I stood (wasn't in overnight) but I think that was due to eating too soon.
The second time I felt very cold when I woke up in recovery. The nurse got me a blanket which they pumped hot air into - it was great. I also had spasms from my catheter which was unpleasant, but they gave me something to help.
Is it a diagnostic lap or might they be removing something if they find it? That'll make a big difference to your recovery.
Good luck with it and if you've any questions let me know!

ALso check out the 'Lap Stories' thread in this section, it should have some really useful info.
Just remembered, wear comfy pants (or bring some if you'll be in a while). Some that are loose and sit midway between your bikini line and belly button. Leave all your jewelry, etc at home as they take everything off you anyway and it's only worrying otherwise. I just keep my wedding ring and then gave it to my husband just before surgery.

Thanks Scarett it helps when you know what to expect. It is a diagnostic unless he find something then he will remove it.
I just do not want to get there and be unprepared. Or get there and think oh I really wish I would of brought that!!!

Have sopme comfort food ready at home for when you get out of hospital, some stuff for entertainment like books films and mags, a freshly changed bed, maybe some snacks for the hospital in case you stay in a while as they don't feed you often haha.
Also defo take an overnight bag as I thought I'd come out of surgery doing karate kicks but I was quite sick and greatful for my bag when I stayed overnight. Include baby/freshening wips cos you prob won't be able to shower if you're sick and have to stay. And someone on hand to help for the first few days after hospital is a massive help xx

Bring Chloroseptic! (spelling???) Your throat might be sore after the surgery from the breathing tube, so if you bring a spray bottle of that stuff, you can numb your throat!

And drink a lot of water after the surgery and try to pee, even though it may feel like you don't have to. You will probably be numb and won't be able to tell you need to go. May also appear that it just has to dribble out w/ gravity! Don't be scared, though.
