Hey Tas and Nina, first of all, best wishes to both of you for your upcoming lap. I think most of all, having the procedure done was one of the best things. I have pain again, but the best part was knowing what was wrong with me. I have been seeing doctors for a couple of years and only 2 months before diagnosis they talked about endo. I had no idea what was going on with my body and was getting really frustrated. Having the procedure has helped me mentally. Now trying to find a way to control it has been my issue. Question for anyone, how do you deal with the pain and still maintain a physical lifestyle, I love to workout and run, but half the time I can't because it hurts so bad. People say that being physical can help, but sometimes when I don't workout the pain seems to subside a little. Also my main concern now is getting pregnant. Its only been 3 months after the laparoscopy but seems so much longer. I am hoping to get pregnant before my doctor wants to do IVF after 6 months. Any stories from those who got pregnant after the lap.?

Had my first lap 9 days ago. It was also my first surgery ever so I was quite freaked out about IVs, hospital, etc. I'm really glad I did it. Here's what really helped me deal: -there's this giant book 'Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom' by C. Northrup. I don't agree completely with all of it, but there's a short section in the back on preparing for surgery that was great. The author makes the point that your surgical team is your personal team of healers. In the OR, as the anaesthesiologist was putting in my IV, which I didn't even feel, I looked around at the 4 OR nurses, my rock solid surgeon, and 2 interns and felt very grateful for all the attention and focused skill. I felt accepting but positive. -visualize the best and worst the surgeon can say to you after surgery. For me the best would be he removed the one endometrioma that showed on the u/s. The worst would be he was shipping me off to the cancer centre. Turns out I had way more endo than what showed on u/s, but outcome was still closer to the best scenario. -know how to calm yourself with deep breathing -if you're sitting there gowned up for 2 hours before surgery, get off the bed and jump around if you can -definitely read the lap advice on the e-resolved site: www.endo-resolved.com/laparoscopy_advice.html-ask the nurses for the steamy warm blankets when you awaken in the recovery room. They feel great, like you're in a spa. Well sort of anyway! I managed to get 4, it was lovely. -have a friend who isn't on narcotics there when the surgeon comes to explain what happened. -book more time off work than they recommend. I went back to work after 5 days and it was exhausting. Take at least a full week if you can. -Pay attention and give yourself time in the days prior to surgery to feel healthy and well-rested. Stay away from the office flu bug by working from home if you can. Don't go into it worn down. Good luck, be sure to celebrate your courage when it's all over.

Hi jenmarie, thanks for your wishes. Do you mind if I ask the type of pain you feel. I get chronic pelvic pain. Sometimes, it feels like a paper cut or someone slicing my skin open. Sounds gross...but thats the honest truth..thats how much pain I am in. I tried cutting so many things and eating healthy...doesn't work for me. When the doc gave you the results...did they classify as mild etc...?where was your endro located? Where they able to take a lot out. My apologizes for all the questions but doctors don't really answer much questions and leave you in the dark. As you can see, I am extremely nervous. thanks

Hey Nina,
Sorry that you are having that type of pain, it is horrible, I know how you feel. The worst part for me is when I am at work trying to concentrate then a sharp stabbing pain occurs. Sometimes its not as bad as other days. More so I just have kind of started accepting the pain and when it gets really bad, I take it easy. I was diagnosed with stage 3, I guess that is moderate/severe? My doctor tried to get as much as possible. I had it behind my uterus, bladder, and rectum. I could tell it made a difference the first time I went to the bathroom after the procedure. The part that still makes me nervous is that I had a lot around my ovaries still, my doctor didn't get any of that because of the damage it may have caused. I have been trying to get pregnant and she didn't want to damage them. Though, when I start to get pain that is where I can feel it first. I have also tried to eliminate foods, no type of food has made a difference. The only thing I can tell that makes a difference is how I eat. I can't eat 3 normal meals because it makes me feel very sick. I now eat smaller portions throughout the day. If you have anymore questions please ask. I know it can be a very stressful situation. Not knowing what was going to happen was the hardest part. Hang in there.

Anything that I find intresting will let you know....you never know..each doc is different. So how long have you been trying to get pregnant? Its been nearly a yr for me despite, I don't tell family and friends that. Can't handle the pain let alone the pressure. Thanks for replying

I had a laparoscopy done a few weeks ago. I have always had painful periods. After having a baby I realized my periods felt like labor but I barely bleed at all. About a year ago I started having worse pain and it was intermittent all month long. Then in July the pain was everyday also alot of pressure and bloating. I gained 2 lbs but went up a size due to all the bloating.. Right side lower abdomen. I had a CT of abdomen and pelvis that showed nothing. I had a colonoscopy that showed nothing. I kept pushing because I didn't want to ignore pain and find out later it was really serious. I had the lap done. He said it was a few patches very minor (no more details yet cause I was loopy and didn't ask questions, I see him in a week for follow-up). Afterwards was harder than I expected. My son is 2.5 so keeping up with him is hard when I'm tired and sore. But its getting better. I had my first period since and bleedng was very heavy, it hurt, but it was a different kind of hurt. I'm glad I did it solely for knowing whats wrong for sure. I didn't want to ignore what had all the symptoms of ovarian cancer. And while I don't seem to have fertility problems (I have a baby that was a oops baby and I had a miscarriage in July after getting pregnant on 2 forms of bc), I was having severe pain. It is still there from time to time but not as bad and not all the time. I figure it is always better to know whats wrong then to assume so it is worth it to have the surgery.

Good Day every one I am new to this site and had a few questions if anyone could help me it would be great...About 2 years ago I was told that I have endo. I do have one child of 6 years old and thank God for him every day. Over a year ago my Doc did a lapo and told me that i have endo and told me that i am going to have to have a lapo to remove all the tissue that had linked everything to one another. about 6 months after that i was not any better so i went back to him and told him and we had talked about taking out the lining if my uterus. after that was done last march i have to have the entire thing taken out vis my belly because it was no better. That was march 18 2004. I went to my family doc about 3 months ago because i was not feeling well at all and my tummy was so sore. he sent me for a ultra sound and found that i have a cyst on my right ovary. I went to talk to my obgyn and she said that she wants to take a look do yet a other lapo to make sure that the endo is not back again...It seems that every other day my belly swells like i am 5 months prego and I am getting sharp pain to the point that i cant walk. And to add to the problem for some reason i have been getting really bad chest pain. feels like i have about 10 people sitting on my chest and i cant breath right but i can breath... I am so tired of being sick and the meds that are there to help do help but for a price. When ever i take the meds they make me feel really strange and i can not do normal things....I think the feeling may be like half cut and then to top it off the next day after taking it i feel like i have a hang over.....If any one could help me with any advice it would be great.... Thanks

Hey gys, I just wanted to follow up after doing my lap. First I want to say and keep this in mind, my doc has always suspected that I have endro...I have chronic pain the runs down my legs...chronic!!! I have brown spotting before my periods and sometimes spot after having sex ( the odd times). Anyways, my doc wanted me to do a lap, dye of the tubes ( to see if the tubes are blocked as I have been trying to have a baby) and a hysteroscopy. The day of the surgery, I opted out of having a hysteroscopy...I was scared out of my mind. As a result, she could not address my spotting. In anycase..after the the procedure, my doc came to me and was very very surpised..I have NO endro!!!! She cannot explain what the case of my pain is from as I show all signs of endro..my periods casue so much pain ..I just don't understand why I have this pain. Now, I regret opting out of the hysteroscopy....if I have a poylp in me, then they can remove it. I am just scared if its cancerous... I have a follow up in dec and will request for it to be done. Anyways, the lap was not painful for me , just felt a lot of pressure in my sholders I just wanted to let you guys know that doc can be wrong. If anyone has any insight into this please let me know thanks

I realize its scary to worry you may have cancer, but uterine cancer is easily treated if found early. The best thing to do is run all the tests and then deal with it from there. Look at it this way, you thought you had endo, you didnt'. Most likely the pain is something minor they just have to figure it out. Good luck to you and definetely find out sooner rather than later.

Hey Nina, Sorry to hear about what happened. On the bright side, you don't have Endo and whatever you might have, maybe curable. I also had an HSG(hysteralsalpingo) , to check the fallopian tubes. Mine hurt so bad. Couldn't walk the rest of the day. Hope I don't have to ever do that again. In fact that was worse than my laporoscopy. I hope you are doing well, emotionally. I am sure it is a rough time, not knowing is the hardest part. Take care and happy holidays!!!
