I took lupron a couple of years ago and I had all the symptoms a woman going through the change would have, but it was great having no period. In the long term I'm worried about what it may do, but I had no other choice at the time. The pain was awful.

tomorrow will be the seventh week since i had my first (three month) shot of lupron. first week, i didn't feel too bad. just my normal pain. second week got worse. by the fourth week, i started spotting and that lasted 21 days. it has since stopped but i still feel like i am going to get my period at any moment. some of my pelvic pain has gone away with the exception of the one by my right hip bone. that's starting to make me wonder if the lupron is worth it. i still cannot wear anything but grannie underwear and scrub bottoms. i venture to wear real pants on weekends but find myself having to take pain meds. the side effects of the lupron aren't too bad for me. i think. i am on the add-back therapy as well. hot flashes aren't bad. i started getting restless at night so i started taking calcium before bed and that helps. i have weird body pains and i think my blood pressure went up. i am not sure if this helps as i am still deciding whether or not to take the second three month shot yet.

I had all those same symptoms the first month, but it eventually subsided. Then NO period at all. It was great. My main symptoms after that was what most menapausal women go through. It wasn't too bad to deal with though. I worry about my longterm effects. Everything has a downside.

i am interested in finding someone who has used lupron in the two, three month injections. i am due in december for my next three month shot. i wasn't sure if i am going to go through all that crap again. i feel like i am just leveling off now. does anyone know if the first two weeks are bad again? i bled for three weeks last time and i don't know if that will happen again. if anyone has any insight, that would be great. thanks.

I took Lupron once every 4 weeks for 6 months. When my doctor suggested I take it after diagnosing my endo by lap-scope I read all the pamphlets, went on a couple of websites and agreed to proceed. I went through the hot flashes and nights sweats and minor mood swings. Besides that I was okay. It wasn't until several months after beginning treatment that I discovered these web sites where women have shared their experiences with Lupron. I have to admit I was totally shocked, had I read these blogs I would have never started treatment. Now had I never started treatment I would have still been having really bad pain. I am having additional problems now from a newfound fibroid, but I went several months without pain and that was great. Granted I tried my best not to concentrate on my "condition." I began exercising and doing additional activities to keep my mind busy. I think my biggest problem with Lupron is that it's only a temporary fix and not a cure.

diana, if you don't mind sharing...was it a t.v.u. that showed your fibroid or can the doc feel it during a pelvic exam? i have similar symptoms but a ct scan showed nothing in that arena.

Actually it was just a regular abdominal ultrasound that discovered the fibroid. I have what's called a "retroverted" uterus ( I have no idea if I spelled that correctly) and the fibroid was discovered on the outside of my uterus measuring 3 cm, which is considered small in this location. It's my understanding that had it been in the lining of my uterus I would have to have immediate surgery to remove it. My doc wants to wait 4 weeks from my last ultrasound to order another one(ultrasound) to see if the fibroid has gone away.

I also took the lupron in monthly injections. It seemed to get better the longer I took it. The first month or so was rough but it got better for me.

I agree the first month on Lupron it was rough but after that I felt great. My first injection was on June 1st and I just finished my last injection on October 20th. And yes they do use Lupron to shrink fibroids. In my case my doc is not sure how or when I developed the fibroid. You see I had my lap-scope on May 3rd and went one entire month without any sonograms or anything and began the Lupron on June 1st. It is MY thought that in that month I developed the fibroid and my doc didn't even know it. So either the fibroid was bigger then and the Lupron shrunk it down to 3 cm or it was 3cm then and the Lupron had no effect on it. Sounds crazy, I know, almost like a little soap opera with secrets popping up every month or so.

thank you for sharing, diana. i was having pain that could be explained by having fibroids. i had a ct scan and it showed no problems in the female way, so now i have to go see a g.i. doc to see about my other inerds. so maybe i have two separate causes for pain. yippee.

Sorry you're going through so much normadesmnd. Hope your g.i. doc can figure things out. It's really hard to know there is something wrong with you but not being able to get confirmation from your doctors as to what it is exactly.

How long has it taken for your periods to return once you go off Lupron? I had a one-time 3 month shot of Lupron on August 19th so I'm hoping the Lupron leaves my system soon but I was wondering what other experiences are. I've read that it can take a few weeks to a few months to get my period back.

I just had a laprascopy done last Tuesday that was really looking for adhesions, not endo, but found that I had it all over inside. There were two places that my doc said he could not remove because they were too large/deep. One was on my uterus and the other on my bowel. He now wants me to take Lupron and I'm scared to death to do it.
I have been having abdominal/pelvic pain, but really I've had no correlation to my period at all. This may be because I have been on continous b.c. for nearly five years. I've been having horrible GI symptoms though that have been worked up by the Mayo Clinic and basically been negative (they missed the endo by the way). Anybody have any experience with Lupron and any GI side effects or improvements?

still inconclusive on the gi side effects or improvement. i posted about that in the general board section. otherwise, i am going through with my second three month treatment of lupron, because it hasn't been horrible, and i rather like not having a period.
