Anything that makes the pain worse cant be good. 9 months!!!!!!! Thats unbelievable, how did she do it. This level of pain is ruining me, i just cant imagine that. I really think that docs just dont realise the amount of pain it can cause, if they realised they wouldnt expect women to tolerate it. I know what you mean puddleduck about fearing the docs wouldnt take you seriously if you didnt give it the time needed, and to be honest if i didnt have the support of the clinic and my GP id probs just keep tolerating like my specialist wants me to. But right now i couldnt give a rats what the specialist thinks, i want to start getting better, what he thinks is irrelevant. Am glad zzerebecki that your considering having it out, if its making your pain alot worse that cant be good, youve certainly given it long enough to settle i think.

Well its out Wohoo!!! Mirena, gooooooooooooooooooone. Feels soooooooooooo good to have it out, i could feel my uterus relaxing within 10mins of it being out. Felt fantastic. Still have pain and am now bleeding a little more and every so often get very sharp pains that take my breath away. But really feel alot better, the pain is no where near what it was and its only just come out a few hours ago. The mirena came out very easily, too easily. Was in position so that wasnt the problem, and no signs of inflammation. The doc thinks my uterus was trying to expel it so the pain was never going to settle coz my uterus was rejecting it and working very hard to get rid of it. So now back to my normal sick, which is still really unwell but nothing compared to with the mirena. Last night i got up from the lounge and nearly collapsed with the pain, my husband had to grab me to stop me falling and help me walk. No more of those fun experiences, well at least not standardly anyway, lol. Am exhausted from today, having it out has really taken alot out of me, so tomorrow will start formulating my plan to get better. Have already cut out or reduced significantly the things i need to in my diet and with this weeks shop will be able to cut even more out and start consuming things to help me get better.

Yayyyy, kb! So glad you got it out and are feeling better!!!! That you could feel the difference immediately must be a huge sign that your body doesn't like IUD's! Glad your doc. listened to you and knew it needed to come out! Best wishes!!!!

Posted by new member lela in another thread. ________________________________________________ Hi all, I'm new here and having a dilema and would like to get some opinions. I suffered from very mild endo in my twenties. I've had three children and since my last one I have not had any symptoms of endo at all. My mom and sister have very severe endo. My mom had a hysterectomy @ 40, and my sister is heading down that same path. I have been on b/c since I was 18 because of the endo pains. But I have been on hormones for almost 20 yrs now and have never known an adult me without them. My doc wants me off them. I am seriously considering the paraguard. I know the side effects involved. My question is this, is there anyone like me who's endo went into remission, that tried the paraguard? And did your symptoms return?? I haven't even had cramps since I had my last child 6 yrs ago, but I'm afraid the paraguard will restart my endo. Thanks Lela"

No prob. I think Janet (vatechgrad member) has been on paraguard before. Actually, you might read through this entire thread. You're likely to find a couple who have been on it and have posted their experiences.

Yes, I've posted in this thread about it. I had mild endo symptoms from 14 on. I was on the pill from 16 to 27. Went off the pill got accidentally pregnant 3 months later. Had a baby, life was grand. Periods were very abnormal while nursing him but not overly painful. Started seeing someone went on patch. All heck broke loose with my emotions. Talked to dr about IUD decided paragard cause obviously hormones were a problem for me. Patch made me realize alot of my teenage depression was bcp enduced. So get paragard. 7 months later its half expelled then removed, the entire 7 months I bled like crazy. I used to have 3 days spotting periods with alot of pain. On paragard it was 5 days minimum bleeding through super tampon and panty liner every hour. And boy did it hurt way worse then before, and way worse then child birth. So didn't use anything but condoms and the pill again. Then just condoms. Then talked to dr after lap that reduced the everyday pain I developed while using the paragard. We decided to try mirena for birth control not the endo, he still wanted me to take a birth control pill for endo. I said let's decide that later as I was afraid of going out of my mind again. Mirena put in Jan 06, last period was feb 06, virtually pain free since then. Have random days of twiging pain but nothing as bad as before. Spotted maybe 4 different times but not enough for underwear just on toilet paper. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the mirena. I don't feel crazy from hormones, I feel very calm and centered actually. I don't have a period, so I don't have pain.
Obviously from reading this you know everyone takes to things differently and only you can decide if you want to try it. The most common side effect of paragard is increased blood flow and increased menstrual pain. The most common side effect of mirena is decreased to stopped blood flow and decreased pain.

Well -- I've had the mirena in for almost 3 weeks now and I'm VERY happy! At first I had bad cramps & crazy non-stop spotting for about a week -- but that has stopped almost entirely -- to the point I even had my gyn check to make sure it was still in place -- HA!!! I almost feel guilty about it working so well when kb has been having such problems! Hopefully someone will be able to help her with her pain -- and kb, I'm so happy your body is feeling better after having it removed! I am almost excited (first time in my life I think) to get my period to see how it is with the pain & bleeding! I know I will have to give it a few months for the full effect, but I'm just impatient! I also haven't had any real emotional problems -- even feel somewhat calmer if that's possible! But again, I've only had it 3 weeks so who knows! But for now -- could NOT be more pleased!

Hi, karen!!! Glad it is working for you. It's so weird how everyone's body is different! I'm sure I'd likely have the same reaction as kb. I'm scared to try it! But it is nice to know that it works well for a lot of women! Maybe you'll have just as good of luck as Janet!

Thanks so much. I think I'm going to go for the mirena. It sounds like a better deal really. The nice thing for me being on the pill is my period lasts about four days. I was on depo provera just after I had my first child and gained almost one hundred pounds, and since then have struggled to get it off. That is another reason my doc wants me off b/c. I think I could handle not bleeding tho Thanks thanks thanks so much. I have been SO worried and stressed. I hate taking b/c. Its just sooo bad for us women. I"ve read thru alot of th posts all over this board. You women are heavensent!! Thanks bunches! Lela

lela, if you dont' like the hormones, you shoudl be advised that Mirena does contain a progestin.

My doc seems to think that it is the estrogen that is effecting me so badly and that the progestrin would be fine. I go back and forth with this. Its tough. Do I risk the paraguard and possible my endo recurring? Or the hormones of the mirena. UGH! I wish that hubby of mine would get a darn vasectomy!!

You could always try the Mirena and if something happens like with KB, just have it removed. You may get lucky and be like Karen and Janet. You won't know unless you try, though. I'm lucky. My husband is pro-vasectomy. As soon as we're finished poppin' 'em out, he's getting himself snipped.
