You know I didn't think about the no kids thing. It can cause more pain then. I have a child, so my uterus is used to something living inside it Maybe that is it. I hope it gets better soon but the u/s would be a really good idea cause if its positioned wrong it would hurt. janet

All the info says, not recommended if you havent had children, but my specialist was recommending it, so i decided not to think about the info saying that, but am thinking thats the possible reason for my problems.
I am still no better, counting down to see my GP tomorrow for decent pain relief. I barely slept last night, an hour at the most.

Oh kb you poor thing -- I'm so glad you're going to see the dr tomorrow!!!! Your pain is making me nervous for you -- I wish you weren't hurting so bad!!!! My cramps have subsided substantially & the spotting has even slowed down! I am so happy! But -- then again, the stupid thing probably fell out & that's why it's feeling better -- HA! I haven't ever had kids either & have a small uterus. My dr said that can be a problem and we will monitor it. She said it's mainly an issue with perforation -- but I'm thinking that if my uterus is not used to having anything in it -- it is NOT going to be happy! I have my appt with the dr to check on it on Friday so hopefully that will go well! I hope that your pain subsides and you don't have to take all those drugs! I am praying for you that it works -- it is senseless for any of us to have MORE pain!!! Keep us posted on your doctor appointment & make sure you get that ultrasound!!!! Again, I am praying they find the cause of the pain and get it fixed!!!!!!

The biggest issue with not recommending it to women with no kids is the pain of insertion. If your cervix has never opened more than needed for your period it hurts alot more to get it in there. I could see increased cramping with uterus not being ok with something in there, but my sister has never had children and she has one. She never complained about much pain after, she did have ALOT of pain during insertion though.

I was sedated during insertion, so that wasnt a problem.
Ive seen my gp today and he wants me to get the IUD out asap, he thinks its unlikely to settle, says some women just cant tolerate them and i clearly am not tolerating it.
He says he refuses to dope up a 26year old woman so she can keep an IUD in. So im getting the placement checked, and if its in place then its to come out.
So the question is now what do i do, the therapy hasnt worked, i dont want surgery and dont really believe it will help, if its in the tissues like i strongly suspect the only solution is a hysterectomy and i definitely dont want that.
My family has lost patience with alternative therapies, but im reluctant on the hormone therapies i havent tried considering the side effects, dont want surgery, not ready for kids. So what do i do?
Ive never tried the endo diet, never tried accupuncture.
Im so lost, so confused, and terribly dissapointed the IUD hasnt worked for me.
I have gotten stronger pain relief, he gave me the strongest tramadol available in slow release and i can take panadol with it, am not meant to take panadeine with it like i have been. Will start that tomorrow when other tramadol out of my system so hopefully will keep the pain more tolerable till its checked and out.

I say give the diet (or a similar one like I was on) a 100% try for at least a couple months! I've had surgeries, 5 years of continous hormone treatment, and NOTHING worked like the diet! The diet I was on is a LOT of work, preparing fresh veggies to always have on hand, making sure to balance things with protein, but the results were AWESOME! If other treatments/tx's are not options, definitely give one of the diets a try!

Thanks Ouchy i think i will actually, have already cut out wheat so i guess thats probably the hardest one anyway with the endo diet. Am thinking maybe to start getting either therapuetic massage or accupuncture once a week, id always been unsure with the cost but my husband went to medicare today and my healthcare has cost us $1800 in the last month or so and we only got $500 of that back, so i think i should stop worrying bout money, we are spending it anyway. The new pain relief is working very well, still in pain but it is a much more tolerable level, i woke up this morning at 2am unable to sleep and decided to start taking it at 4am and went back to bed, slept so much better with the pain relief on board. Still very limited with activity of course, but i was like that before the mirena went in. Cant wait to get it out now and start working on getting better again, am starting to get over my dissapointment with this and ready to move on to try new things, cant let this defeat me. Thanks everyone for all your support with this, has been a big challenge going through this level of pain constantly and having the support of this forum has really helped me deal with it. Hugs

I'm not around here all that often, I didn't realize you hadn't had surgery and didn't want to. I can say my first IUD, the non-hormonal paragard, worsened my symptoms to the point I realized something was wrong. I had surgery and was pretty pain free except for my periods. Got the IUD 4 months later and all was great in my world I am not sure how well it would've worked for me if my endo was still left behind. I think the IUD helps prevent regrowth with the hormones like the pill does. But it wouldn't have done anything for what was already hurting me. And maybe its making it worse for some reason. I'm interested to hear how the ultrasound goes. I'm hoping its just a placement issue which wouldn't be so discouraging. Janet

Ive had surgery before but it was a while ago now and nothing was found, but the doc wasnt real interested and i suspect he didnt look properly, this is at least what my new doc thinks likely happened.
I spoke to a doc at the gyno clinic yesterday and she said that its very rare to have pain after insertion but she knows herself from her own experience that it can happen, she had cramping for 2 weeks after that was mild, but she said shes not sure what would happen with endo involved as well.
She thinks to wait till thursday if i can tolerate it to be sure, just in case it settles in the next few days, but said it was unreasonable to wait longer than that with the level of pain im in. All i have to do is ring first thing thursday morning and they will check the placement and take it out.
Just my own theory but i suspect that mine is in the tissues, just like my mother and that it is so inflamed from close on 2years of constant pain that the insertion of the mirena has aggravated it, and those extra cramps are enough to push my pain levels from tolerable to severe.
Will definitely let you all know how thursday goes. I actually felt ok this morning, but ive had that happen occasionally in the morning, it slowly builds and after a few hours am the same as normal. Today has been no exception.
Am now making a point of reading in the sun every day for a bit, it wears me out but it is helping me keep my spirits up. My husband actually thought last night i was better coz i was in a good mood, just goes to show how much a simple act can lift you even when your still really sick.

Hi KB, Good to hear your GP is being fair minded about it. It's interesting you mention about the possibility of endo within the uterus being irritated by the coil. I strongly suspected the same with mine, but I felt that despite having to keep myself dosed up with opiates and diclofenac supps, I should give it the full six months (It's crazy!) ???Nobody should HAVE to do that, but I felt that doctors might not take me seriously unless I allowed it the normal settling in time. My own gyn did warn me that it could well cause problems... Yet he didn't offer to remove it. (I know of other women who have been left to put up with it and one in particular finished up begging for a hysterectomy 9 months after having it fitted when in pain almost every day. Yet no-one would suggest removing the Mirena first! ). I have to say now that I am pleased that I trusted my intuition to have it removed because I felt that it was doing harm. In some ways it seems unfortunate that it wasn't successful because it would be fantastic contraception (if the need arose) too IF it helped everything else.
